2015 Drama Mystery & Thriller List
81% 48 Reviews Tomatometer 89% 1,000+ Ratings Audience Score From the creators of "Damages," "Bloodline" is a dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. The Rayburns are hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community, but their past contains dark secrets that they hope remain buried. Paranoia and mistrust build as lies pile up, alliances are shattered, and an unthinkable crime takes place. The tight-knit family's formerly harmonious relationship deteriorates, and good people are forced to consider doing very bad things. Critics Consensus

While Bloodline's tricky timeline detracts from the potency of the story and its characters, the show remains an addictive, tightly drawn brainteaser framed on a believable canvas.

Audience Member The first season of BLOODLINE is very unnecessarily slow to develop and the buildup continues until the last 2 - 3 episodes with practically each scene happening way too fast, pared down to mininal dialogue (I had to go back many times to sort out what was happening). The second season turned into a hack job soap for 1950s housewives and I quit watching it because I'm too much of a wimp to endure THIRTY THREE EPISODES of something this pretentiously empty. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Jeanne U First season well-paced, concise, a roller coaster ride. 2nd season notsomuch...a bit draggy, but still well-acted. The premise is "all that glitters ain't gold", that beneath the surface all unhappy families are unhappy in their own unique way, to paraphrase Tolstoy. 3rd season was rushed to pack in all the weird dream sequences a la Sopranos to resolve psychological dilemmas and do the ultimate reveals. The series had been cancelled abruptly so producers had only that last season to resolve the storylines...admittedly rushed. The lynchpin turned out to be matriarch Sally, the real gangster deep down who thought family was something to burnish and show off to the world as exemplary when even her son John-the so-called good boy-accused her of not knowing what family really meant. She swings from delusional and pseudo-wholesome to hardcore thuggery...who'd lie through her teeth on the witness stand to save the family name meanwhile hating her kids deep down for having real pain and real problems. Sins of both the fathers and mothers handed down to the kids resulting in heinous crimes and broken marriages and cover-ups. An excellent primer on how not to raise your kids. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Matthew S This is an absolute must see series. Wonderfully acted and the show is just wonderful. It takes the viewer on a ride that you just cannot miss. This is in my top three productions ever filmed. Must see Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Mike C Not yet sure what is to come in the next seasons, but reviews seem to go downhill for 2&3. The origin of this show however is fantastic. I almost gave up halfway but stuck it out because of the acting. And then it took off the second half and the ride began. Continued great again and the story increased ten fold. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review pf c Great casting and performances. Not really a fan of continuous flashbacks and found them a bit confusing. Good storyline so far. I think I have the series figured out but will not know until I watch all of it:) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/05/22 Full Review Darla D probably the single most unrealistic and contrived series of plots that are so impossible, even a child would be disappointed, this entire series could have been made into a somewhat interesting story about family dynamics and corruption in about a 1-1/2 hour crime drama, but NOOOOOO, the puzzle with almost all the pieces looking the same adds about 50 twists to extend the story, but it's almost all the same twist, just changing the names of the characters and drudging up additional subplots to the storyline that don't jive with the rest of the plot... truthfully, it reminded me exactly of the old time soap box operas that went on for years, and this one's brother's cousin who was married to the ex but their child was really the postman's who has come back to claim him for the money and another victim/persecutor/rescuer drama triangle, switching roles every 20 minutes just to drag the story on, but it goes nowhere... don't waste your time Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sarah Hughes Independent (UK) Produced by the creators of legal thriller Damages, Bloodline is expert in its mix of complex characterisation and killer twists and should be just the ticket for any Netflixers seeking another dark drama binge, post-House of Cards. Jan 23, 2018 Full Review Rob Sheffield Rolling Stone You know when the family's patriarch is Sam Shepard - the guy who wrote Buried Child - there is going to be some blood on the floor. Nov 12, 2015 Full Review David Rooney Hollywood Reporter The talent on the roster is impressive indeed, and the Netflix full-season delivery model seems fortuitous in that Bloodline, on the basis of this sampling, begs to be binge-watched. Nov 12, 2015 Full Review Ángel S. Harguindey El Pais (Spain) With Bloodline there is an emotional ups and downs from the desire to see the next chapter. [Full Review in Spanish] Jul 9, 2018 Full Review Ed Power Digital Spy Six episodes in, with the atmosphere swinging between portentous and over-pumped, the suspicion that you are watching a guilty pleasure dressed up as something more sophisticated is hard to dispel. Jan 23, 2018 Full Review Melissa Leon The Daily Beast That's what makes Bloodline special. Storylines are introduced gradually, over the course of several episodes, and left to simmer on their own until they reach a boiling point. Oct 25, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews
