Courtney D Alexander Dreymon was excellent in this movie. I loved it!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I was not sure what to expect with this new take on Vampires. However, the cast made the movie for me. Jamie Harris and Samuel Hunt were interesting to watch. What made the film for me was the Actor Alexander Dreymon. I hope to see him in more films. Great work and I will follow miss Kuhn and mister Dela Torre to see what they're doing next... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Here's the headline: This is how a vampire movie should be. Flaws? Yes, but it makes the film better. Blood Ransom is a tense, vampire thriller that has as much existential philosophy as it does blood. And it has a LOT of blood. You would think a film with so much thought would be a hit with the art-house critics but a bomb with the movie goer. You would be exactly wrong. While critical reviews seem to yawn at the film, fan reviews all seem to give it high marks and I agree. This is a good film. What you get is a journey into the mind of Francis Dela Torre. Dela Torre creates a tense world where vampires love, feel, plot and are real characters. The film is beautiful, especially considering tis is a low-budget film, and the casting is spot on. Caleb Hunt makes a creepy, yet compellingly "human", vampire and Jamie Harris steals the show. Yes, the film has some flaws, as the mainstream critics point out. But it's worth it. It makes the film real, it makes the story compelling, the characters life like, and most of all, like the characters in the film, it gives you a choice. If you want a thinking movie-- you got that. If you want a monster movie-- you got that too. You can enjoy it either way. And I think that's what threw the critics off. It's good looking and has a brain. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Anne Curtis' gaze is hypnotizing - this film had all the moments (and blood!) you want to see in a dark supernatural thriller, and if that sounds like your type of film, you have GOT to see Blood Ransom! Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times Dela Torre tinkers with some of the undead's best-known traits, yet his reinvented wheel still feels like a retread. Oct 30, 2014 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times It's all very solemn, convoluted and a bit bloody, but not engrossing, despite impressive cinematography by Jasmin Kuhn and Mr. dela Torre and the best efforts of a hard-working cast. Oct 30, 2014 Full Review Rob Staeger Village Voice While the portentous glances and oblique dialogue of the undead evoke stylish '70s Euro-vampires - as do the trippy cuts and fade-outs - Oliver's manhunt feels more like a low-budget '80s potboiler. Oct 28, 2014 Full Review Naila Scargill Exquisite Terror A slow-burn approach with a dreamlike quality that is at times hypnotic indicates a filmmaker to watch in director-writer Francis dela Torre. Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Jim Lane Sacramento News & Review Things are so cheap they didn't even spring for uniforms for the so-called cops; everybody seems to be wearing their street clothes.
