Liked easy to use and ran on 1.5 AH 20 volt battery for 20 minutes. Edger cut a half inch deep groove in dry clay soil along an overgrown side walk not previously edged. Total distance edged was 300 ft (from garbage can to cart in photo) before both operator and battery ran out of energy. No major dislikes. Not as powerful as 120 volt plug-in, gas, or high volt battery models but meets my needs as an affordable 20 volt edger.

I have most of the Black and Decker 20v line, and while I really wanted a 40v edger, the cost of most of those was ridiculous, plus almost every other lithium edger out there sells the battery and charger separate, so it was great B&D included them -- plus I just added the new battery to the several I already have. As far as assembly goes -- be ready to pull your hair out. It would be simple but for the long electric line you somehow have to stuff into the tubing while doing the rather simple assembly. No tools required -- just incredible patience. Instructions are fairly useless. But, you have to shove the line both above and below, and you'll know what I'm talking about once you try. It took me almost an hour just to get the electric line in -- other than that, assembly would have been less than five minutes. The complaints about the battery life are semi-true. The machine draws a lot of power, and discharges the battery quicker than any other B&D tool. You will need two batteries to do a full edge -- and the 3.0ah or higher spares that can be purchased online would likely be a much better match. But -- if you already have a spare 20v -- the machine does a great job of edging very easily. The three wheels make it easy to use, line up, and keep on track. Adjustments are also simple. Since the manual is really trash, anyway, it's great that everything is intuitive and beyond easy to figure out. However, always wear safety glasses when using this -- or any edger. Very important!!!! In essence -- I really like the machine for the cost and ease of use. Battery is only fair -- but with two -- no problem.

I normally don’t write reviews but this product was extremely disappointing! Ordered because I have other products from their cordless line such as the weed eater and leaf blower. Battery overheats after 10 minutes of use, then you have to wait for it to cool down and recharge it or use another battery (which I had but others may not) it doesn’t cut through thick grass no matter what depth setting it’s on. It powers off immediately if you slightly bump the sidewalk, and when the grass is too thick or dirt is too hard (so about every 30 seconds or less). You also can’t start the product with it already touching the ground it’s not powerful enough and just won’t start. You have to hold it above ground and then hope your aim is good enough to place it where you want it. Other similar black and decker products have worked great, but they certainly missed the mark on this one! Assembly wasn’t super difficult but the cord is inside the stick and it is longer than then stick so trying to shove the cord in to assemble the stick and then get the screws around the cord was challenging. Will be returning this proctor hopefully find something that works better!

REVIEW I MADE IN 2023 - Well, this product is not really heavy duty for sure. But, once you have tackled that initial edging at the beginning on the grass season, it works better. You just have to make sure you continue to edge your grass so that the edger can do its job. I like the fact that I don't have a cord or have to crank it. If this breaks down, I will look for another alternative.
UPDATE - April 23, 2024........I found the solution to the problem!!! The battery they provide for this edger does not have the power you need to make it work properly!!!!! I had a Lithium MAX 20v 2.5 Ah and decided to use this one instead of the 1.5 Ah they provided with purchase. Oh my gosh....what a difference this makes. I was ready to pitch this thing, but now with the extra power, it works like my gas one used to!!!! Cuts through all the grass with ease. I'll keep it!

This is a great product aside from the battery life issue. Easy to use and set up. I was really looking forward to cleaning up the edging around my pool. Unfortunately, it takes three attempts to fully get around my 20x40 pool since the charge does not last. Some of that is due to how thick the ground growth was in those areas. Dense areas eat up the battery life super-fast! Once it gets to a more manageable level, the ease of use for this product helps make it easy to take out and do a quick 15-20 minutes of work at any time.

Very very power hungry to be given a 20v 1.5ah battery. I purchased this B&D to edge the grass along my sidewalk, driveway and flower beds. I went with this model because I have multiple B&D 20v devices so I've accumulated 4 other batteries with those other purchases. This is a middle of the road product that doesn't come with a power pack with enough juice to edge more than 3-5 minutes at a time. I was able to get around 20-25 feet edged on a full battery. Once discharged, the battery is too hot to handle without letting it cool. I nearly dropped it when I went to swap it for another.

Even with 5 batteries, 12+ swaps, I'm around half done with the edging project I purchased this to help accomplish, all due to the limited battery life. I have the B&D 20v weed trimmer, leaf blower, hedge trimmer and drill. Those devices are all efficient enough to get a project basically done with one or two batteries. This edger is just to power hungry for the 20v ecosystem. Unless you have a very small project, and with multiple batteries, I would not recommend.

If I were to purchase again, I'd look into a plug-in, or gas powered edger.
