Montreal Biosphere

Originally created as Expo 67's USA Pavilion circa 1967 by R. Buckminster Fuller -a gent who, once upon a time, was dubbed the world's first green architect by Sir Norman Foster- today's Montreal Biosphere is par for the theme, rather fittingly an environmental science museum, this, since its 1992 redesign which took roughly three years to complete before the repurposed landmark reopened its doors to the public in 1995, right in the heart of Parc Jean-Drapeau. 

Exhibit themes? Water, green technology, sustainable transportation, and other leading environmental concerns round out Biosphere exhibitions which, more often than you'd think, appeal to children courtesy of their often hands-on, family-friendly and interactive nature. In fact, what I noticed most the first time I ever visited the Montreal Biosphere was how much fun kids were having jumping on apparatus in the water exhibition room.

Montreal Biosphere: 2017 Admission

$15 adults, $12 seniors, $10 students over age 18 with I.D., free for ages 17 and under. Admission rates are subject to change without notice.

Montreal Biosphere: Hours of Operation

June 1 to September 6: Monday to Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
September 7 to May 31: Wednesday to Sunday : 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Mondays and Tuesdays)

Montreal Biosphere: Location

The Montreal Biosphere is located at 160 Chemin Tour-de-l’Isle on Sainte-Hélène Island in Parc Jean-Drapeau, easily accessible by public transit. Just get off at Jean-Drapeau Metro, turn left upon exiting the station and as soon as you see a huge geodesic dome in you line of sight, turn left again. You couldn't miss it if you tried.
