A Look At 'The Biggest Loser' Winners Then and Now

The Biggest Loser was a huge success for 17 seasons from 2004 until 2016. The NBC reality show transformed contestants' bodies, but received criticism for not promoting healthy habits. Now, the show returns to USA with new trainers, group therapy sessions, and new contestants. To prepare for the reboot, here is a look at where the original Biggest Loser winners are now.

Ryan Benson Season 1

Ryan was the show's first-ever winner and started at 300 pounds. He completed the season at 175 pounds, scoring a win and $250,000, according to Business Insider. However, quick weight loss usually isn't sustainable, and Ryan returned to his starting weight after the show.

“In my mind I just thought I’ve been training so hard I want to eat something I craved for a few months — a burger, fries, some ribs,” Benson told Business Insider. “That was one of the things that propelled me to the finish line. I thought, when I’m done I’m going to get this. It was a reward.”

Season 2 Matt Hoover

Matt weighed 339 pounds when he started the show in March of 2005. He left weighing 182 pounds and later married another contestant, Suzy, according to his professional speaking bio. Now, the two life in Seattle with their kids, Rex and Jax. According to the couple's Facebook page, Matt regained weight but has since undergone vertical sleeve gastrectomy and has lost more than 130 pounds.

Erik Chopin Season 3

Erik weighed 407 pounds at the start of season 3, and was declared thee winner after losing 214 pounds. However, three years later, Erik appeared on Oprah and revealed he gained most of the weight back and weighed 268 pounds.

Bill Germanakos Season 4

Bill went on the show with his twin brother, Jim, during The Biggest Loser's fourth season. Bill went from 334 lbs to 170 lbs, losing 49 percent of his body weight. He has regained some of the weight and shares updates on Twitter.

Ali Vincent Season 5

Ali was the first female winner on The Biggest Loser. She started at 234 pounds and weighed in at 122 pounds on the final episode. However, she has since regained the weight, according to Ali's Facebook.

In a post from 2016, Ali wrote, "On April 16th I did one of the hardest things in my life I joined Weight Watchers and weighed in close to the weight I started at on The Biggest Loser. I swore I would never be there again, be here again. I couldn’t imagine a day again that I would weigh over 200 pounds."

Michelle Aguilar Season 6

Michelle began season six at 242 pounds and left the show at 132 pounds. Gauging from her Instagram account, Michelle looks happy and healthy in 2020.

Helen Phillips Season 7

Helen lost 20 dress sizes during the seventh season of the show. She began at 257 pounds and left the show at 117 pounds as the winner. Although, she hasn't appeared in many interviews throughout the years, Helen was in a promotional video for an elliptical Street Strider, Women's Health reported.

Danny Cahill Season 8

Danny Cahill lost 239 pounds, finishing the season at 191 pounds. To get there, Danny worked out seven hours a day, burning 8,000 to 9,000 calories, reported Business Insider.

But quick weight loss is difficult to maintain and Danny regained 100 pounds after the show. A study following Cahill, and other contestants, found that he burns 800 calories a day less than other men his size due to a slower metabolism.

Michael Ventrella Season 9

Michael was the show's heaviest contestant at 526 pounds. He finished the season at 262 pounds and won $250,000. But the winner was left broke, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune. Michael explained to the paper that half of his winnings went to taxes while the rest paid off his student loans, credit cards, and truck loan.

Patrick House Season 10

Patrick lost 205 pounds, leaving a winner at 219 pounds. He has since gained back some weight and was last reported as weighing 265 pounds in 206, according to People.

Patrick defended the show against critics who say quick weight loss is why many contestants regained weight.

“The weight I have gained back is directly proportional to my time focused on diet and gym time,” he told People. “The only place to point the finger is at the man in the mirror. Maintenance is tough, but it’s not impossible.”

Olivia Ward Season 11

Olivia went from 261 to 129 pounds in season 11. The winner has maintainer her weight loss and is a Soul Cycle instructor, according to Instagram.

John Rhode Season 12

John began season 12 weighing 445 pounds. On the finale, he weighed 225 pounds, losing roughly 49 percent of his body weight. He's currently lives in Arizona and is a motivation speaker, according to his professional speaking bio. He completed the LA Marathon in March 2012 and participated in a promotional CrossFit video.

Jeremy Britt Season 13

Jeremy lost 199 pounds to win season 13. Although there are no current reports about Jeremy's weight, he told the Daily News in Montcalm County, Michigan, that he was dedicated to keeping the pounds off.

“Life after the show is where we are right now,” Jeremy said in 2012. “Keeping up with all the stuff we learned throughout the show, there’s not an end goal anymore. We have to stay focused on our health because that is the end goal — being healthy for the rest of our lives.”

Danni Allen Season 14

Danni lost 121 pounds and finished the season at 137 pounds. Now, she is the marketing director for Planet Fitness in Chicago, IL. Danni now weighs roughly 175 pounds, which is a “healthy, happy weight for me to maintain without going crazy in the gym," she told Chicago Tribune in 2018.

Rachel Frederickson Season 15

Rachel received lots of attention for losing 155 pounds, which some people believed was too significant of a decrease. In 2014, Rachel gained 20 pounds and said she was at her perfect weight. As of 2016, Rachel has not updated her social media channels and her current health status is unknown.

Toma lost 171 pounds to win season 16. According to a Facebook post in 2016, Toma was trying to lose some weight after regaining a few pounds due to a calf injury.

Roberto Hernandez Season 17

Roberto was the last original winner of The Biggest Loser. He began the show at 348 pounds and weighed 188 at the end. According to a post on Roberto's Instagram from May 2019, he kept off 90 pounds from the show. "Progress!!! I’ve kept off close to 80-90 lbs since the show, keeping the weight off isn’t easy, actually it’s one of the hardest things I’ve done in my life..... I’ve lost 25-30 lbs since February. It’s going down slow, my goal is another 25 lbs the next three months! Guys remember it all starts with one step, we’re all capable!!!!," he wrote.
