Freshman: It has been great! Being in NYC is a very special aspect of college life here, but Columbia also feels very separate from the city so you don't get distracted. The party scene for me is dull, I barely find parties to go to (or people to go with) but I'm sure Greek life is having fun. Alum: During my years at Rutgers, I seized numerous chances at leadership and teaching thanks to the university's commitment to equal access. I spent time as Resident Life and volunteered at a local hospital, gaining experience beyond the classroom. The university's size may seem daunting, but its bus system makes navigating campus a breeze. Each campus has its own unique atmosphere, from the bustling city-esque College Avenue to the serene Douglass campus, complete with botanical gardens and farms. As someone from New York City, the "Knight Mover" service was one of my favorites; this service, available from 3am to 6am, ensured safe transportation for students–with no questions asked. My biggest regret was that not many students took advantage of this opportunity, whether it was because they simply didn’t know about it or because they didn’t like the small white pickup van. Sophomore: How I would describe Brooklyn College is like a one-and-done go. I picked only two days to go to campus because I recently moved away from Brooklyn and it's a 2-hour commute from where I live now. My day there is attending my 4 classes and with the breaks in between them, I like to study in the library or finish up work that needs to be done during the weekend, have some lunch with my classmates, etc. The student life here I would say is very inclusive, most people have their groups and just stay to themselves. What I would like to see change is the conditions of the buildings and the club & association environment. The conditions are manageable but could be better, most of the time the elevator doesn't work, very bad wifi, and not too many areas to have lunch, hang out, or study (besides the library). Sophomore: Gorgeous campus, close knit student body, and the perfect distance from NYC! Tons of career and networking opportunities in Gabelli. I actually really enjoyed some of my core classes. A more low key party scene during the week but people are definitely out on friday/saturday. The dorms are average, some are nicer than others. Food on campus at the cafeteria is okay but they other locations that have sushi/bagels/acai bowls that are pretty good. A lot of people study abroad and Fordham has campuses in London and Spain which make it super easy which is great. Athletics aren’t huge, but people come to basketball. Rose Hill is definitely better for people who want a college experience on a college campus while also having access to the city.
