Must Watch: One of the World's Best FPV Drone Pilots Chases Remy Metailler - Pinkbike
we've seen Remy ride this line in a few videos before and it always looked very difficult. but this confirmed the actual degree of difficulty which we could only imagine on the usual GoPro shots
I think this would be third person view, FPV would be from Remy's perspective like a normal go-pro helmet vid. But yeah, I know what you mean and completely agree, it shows the context way better.
@msalcher: it means first person view, referring to the way they are piloted - via immersive goggles, rather than more traditional cinematic drones, which are larger, slower, and piloted via looking at a screen.
When I saw it was a drone video I assumed it was going to be constant shots whipping past the rider, doing a flip then coming back at him as almost all drone videos seem to be. It turns out I was wrong! Kudos to the operator, that filming was super good. Those lines are wild...
Awesome riding, and also awesome drone piloting! Well Done!
And thanks for expressing your gratitude to the Original Inhabitants, for the permission to ride on their turf.
Finally some watchable drone footage. This and the Vanderham video the other day show how drone filming should be done. No swirling craziness. Amazing riding too.
They just need a way to mic up the rider and reject the drone sound and it would be perfect. I think we're losing a connection with the ground currently.
I know some drone footage they do the whole run twice, one recording the sound, but there are so many hits on this one, it's probably not practical.
We’ve done a lot of drone shooting lately, and the noise is definitely an issue. You basically had to lay music over it.
I’m wondering if people will start putting a mic on the rider then running a filter through the audio to remove the drone buzz. A drone video with the sounds of the riding would be awesome.
@uh-no: professional audio engineer here - it’s not that easy. Fpv drones like this are super f*cking loud, and they need to be fairly close to the rider, since they need wide angle lenses in order to be effectively piloted. If the rider can hear the drone, so can a mic on the rider.
Absolutely amazing!
Always enjoy watching Remy's videos, the dude can certainly ride no question about that. This gave such a great new perspective on what it is that Remy is riding and how there's no way this old bloke could even contemplate such a thing.
Drone pilot Gabriel, what a talent in his own right and to think 2 time runner up to the World Champion. Keep at it, you deserve to win one. That could not be anywhere as easy as he made that look, shadows, trees and the narrow gaps between them. Seriously impressed.
Hope to see more of this type of filming in the future.
I really liked seeing the acknowledgment of indigenous nation. Every video shot in BC should include that acknowledgment. Great concept, amazing riding.
It's really cool, I just wish each shot would end half a second sooner, it's kinda distracting when it zooms off somewhere else at the end.
Incredible riding and trails though, and classy ending.
The drone can go many many times farther away from the controller than it can transmit the video back to the pilot. That is why you see abrupt "bail outs" from the drone's view. The video you are witnessing is a recording; what the pilot is seeing in real time is basically ALL noise at the end of each shot.
I can't believe he could get such long runs with all the trees blocking the video feed back to wherever he was piloting from.
That was absolutely insane. If we had drone footage of other old amazing headcam footage I think we would all be blown away by the lines they take. Just a whole new perspective.
So awesome and amazing. BIKE CHECK!! I see DVO green fork, but Diamond or Onyx? DVO shock too? I recall Remy was on GG frames but now Polygon? I can't keep up. I just love knowing that my parts and bike should be able to do all this, I just need to grow bigger balls and shrink my amygdala :-)
Remy was never on GG or polygon to my knowledge, he was on cube frames but is now riding propain. And yeah he usually runs dvo onyx fork and either dvo jade coil or topaz for the shock. He did a bike check vid with Christina chappetta over the winter

BK going about 5x as fast
I’m wondering if people will start putting a mic on the rider then running a filter through the audio to remove the drone buzz. A drone video with the sounds of the riding would be awesome.
The video would even better (yes,, it is possible) if the shots from the drone were mixed with the normal hand held camera shots.
Pretty sure this is the beginning of the new drone shot and watchable videos
I can't believe he could get such long runs with all the trees blocking the video feed back to wherever he was piloting from.
Top work from both of these awesome humans.
nice riding, nice filming and it is so quiet…
No talking ist somtimes wonderfull…
