Like every other week, this week has brought along a variety of new Indian and international shows and movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, Discovery Plus, Cinemapreneur and ZEE5 to choose from. The much-awaited second season of Hostages is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar, while Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi sharing the screen on Netflix, before the new Mirzapur season drops. On the other hand, Akshay Kumar is venturing into the wild with Bear Grylls. A new OTT platform that only displays Indie cinema, called Cinemapreneur, has also caught our attention. Lucky for us, this week, they have a National-award winning documentary releasing on their platform. 1. Hostages Season 2 – Disney+ Hotstar

The much-awaited new season of Disney+ Hotstar’s Hostages is all set to join the list of new Indian shows and movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and the other streaming platforms later this week. This time, we will see Ronit Roy reprise his role. Dino Morea, Shibani Dandekar, Divya Dutta, Shweta Basu and even Ashim Gulati will also feature in it. Like last time, Hostages Season 2 has been directed by Sudhir Mishra and promises to be just as thrilling, if not more.

Past experience tells us that Bollywood doesn’t do a great job when it comes to genres like sci-fi. However, director Arati Kadav is making a bold venture into this genre with her upcoming film Cargo. This film joins the list of shows and movies on Netflix this week and features Mirzapur co-stars Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi. It tells the story of a spaceship where souls of the dead are prepped for their reincarnation. However, when a new lively assistant joins the spaceship, the lone crew member’s rigid existence is disrupted.

You may remember Sumeet Vyas and Nidhi Singh as the imperfect couple from Permanent Roommates. The two are now coming together for a 10-episode show that has been shot at home during the lockdown. They will be joined by Kubbra Sait of Sacred Games fame. This show, which has been directed by Rohan Sippy, tells the story of an amicable divorce case that is taking place over Zoom. You should catch it to not only watch Sumeet and Nidhi play couple once again, but also enjoy the comedy that ensues.

After featuring PM Narendra Modi and Superstar Rajinikanth, Bear Grylls’ next recruit from India is none other than Akshay Kumar. Considering that Khiladi Kumar is not only the fittest but also the most badass of all the Bollywood stars, we have no doubts about his survival skills in the wild. The comedy film has been adapted from a Bengali movie called ‘Khelechi Ajgubi’. It tells the story of Khelechi, a Senegalese footballer, who has come to Bengal from his hometown in Africa, to meet PK, a mafia based in West Bengal. He’s in India to take part in a football match but finds himself caught in a series of unlikely encounters. This film features Parambrata Chattopadhyay, of Bulbbul fame, who has also directed it.

7. Blackkklansman – Netflix

Featuring John David Washington in the lead, it tells the story of the first Black African American to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. As an on-duty cop, he decides to bravely go after the Ku Klux Klan, with the help of his more experienced colleague, Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver). It has been directed by Spike Lee.
