Bear Grylls’ next challenge is his greatest yet: Surviving broadcast TV.

The world-famous adventurer has landed a new competition series on NBC called Get Out Alive. The show will feature contestants in teams of two facing extreme tests in the wilderness. “Get Out Alive will be raw, tough and unrelenting, but it will also inspire and teach the essentials that one day may just save your life,” Grylls said. “The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward — but first there must be some pain.”

There better be pain! Grylls is the former star of Discovery Channel’s hit series Man vs. Wild, which ran for six years and aired its series finale last March. This marks Grylls’ first major broadcast network show.

NBC has ordered eight episodes co-produced by Bear Grylls Ventures and Ben Silverman’s multimedia studio, Electus. “To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature,” said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative programming at NBC Entertainment. “He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits.” Get Out Alive will debut next summer.
