Visited whilst staying in Cancun, prices were more expensive than back home in the UK so no bargins. Food court was a major challange as I am coeliac and was unable to find anything I could eat and gave up in the end. Wide veriaty of shops to wander round very clean and a nice place to visit.

Really good mall. A large variety of stores, a lot you don't find in the US. Has a movie theater and a very good food court. My wife enjoyed shopping here. Prices are better than the Malls in the Hotel Zone.

After reading numerous inaccurate reviews for Plaza Las Américas, I felt the need to shed some light on what makes this mall stand out compared to La Isla and Plaza Outlet.

First, this is not a small mall. In fact it is a big mall in Cancun, possibly the biggest. There are roughly 200+ retail stores, large food court with mixture of global brands like Burger King, McDonalds, and Subway. Plus you can find Mexican options, Japanese, and even Italian. This plaza also includes a large grocery store known as Chedraui, which is the Mexican version of Walmart. Also you can find two currency exchange locations one on each side of the mall. Lastly there is a very large cinema known as Cinépolis, which has at least 12 regular cinemas and 4 VIP cinemas. This helps create an ideal all-in-one plaza where you can shop, grab food, watch a movie and pickup some groceries before heading out. It also makes a good destination on days when it is raining or the climate is not co-operative.

Next, I've seen some comments about quality. As with any plaza the quality varies from low to high and is entirely based on budget. If you walk into a Mexican retail store selling clothes for 50 pesos you have to know the quality is not very high. However if you want to spend 1000 pesos you can just as easily walk into Massimo Dutti, Guess, or Tommy Hilfiger. Not to mention Liverpool and Sears carry a lot of major brands.

Quality in terms of restaurants is almost identical. You can easily pickup a cheap combo from Burger King or you can walk into one of the numerous restaurants attached to the plaza itself: Sushitto, Toks, Chillies, La Pasteleteria or Cheesters. Bottom line there is variety and quality mixed into one location.

Getting to and from Plaza las Americas is easy and in most cases you do not even need to take a taxi. Jump on either the R1/R2 bus coming from the hotel zone and get off the bus at the first stop in the city. It is pretty easy to recognize the stop because a lot of people get on and off at this location. Here is the tip: If your lost, ask any local, they will all know.

People talking about safety. I'm not sure how the safest neighborhood in Cancun can be considered unsafe, degraded, or unacceptable to walk. This is not even real Mexico, you are basically talking about an Americanized neighborhood. As with any city most people end up putting themselves at risk by walking around late at night, alone, or worse drunk.

People shopping for electronics. Mexico as a whole is not really well known for having cheap or the latest electronics. The government applies heavy duties to anything from Asia which is why clothes and electronics tend to be a bit more expensive here than you might expect. Unless you absolutely need to buy something electronic, perhaps it’s better to buy it in your home country.

Comparisons:
Las Americas - All in One plaza at the heart of Cancun (inside, variety)
La Isla - Upscale tourist shopping (mostly outside, Loui Vuitton expensive)
Outlet - Discount shopping (mostly outside, cheap, only shopping)

If you dont fancy food court quality food, I highly recommend either La Pasteleteria (couples, coffee, desert), Cheesters (family, pizza, pastas, and salads, large portions), or Sushitto (self explanatory).

Hopefully someone will find the above helpful!

This is the largest shopping mall in Cancun and you could spend all day here without trying.
Besides stores like, Sears, H&M, Radio Shack, Krispy Kreme, Old Navy, you can find Liverpool, which is a very large Mexican department store. The food court has all the fast food you could want (McDonalds, Burger King, Johnny Rockets, Olive Garden, Starbucks, Chili’s, Hooters and more—but why when you can get authentic Mexican food?)
There is also a casino here…really.
This is not really a “tourist” mall, so you’re not going to find any souvenir shops here, but you can still find some nice gifts that are better than your usual souvenirs.

This one has it all. They have tons of stores if you need to buy anything. But the best part is you can buy mexican minutes for your phone, eat in dozens of places from restaurants to the food court and the movies are amazing. They have VIP movies with huge leather recliners and wait staff. The food ranges from pizza, nachos to sushi. Amazingly, unlike the US movie food it is all delicious. We weren't hungry. We had margaritas and popcorn. The popcorn comes with some really yummy hot spicy stuff to put on it. We then ate at the food court where they also have waiters. To get there from the Hotel zone just take the number 27. It drops off and the same one back. Don't listen to the locals that will try to put you on another bus. ONLY TAKE THE 27, you willl otherwise be lost. It does not run as often, but it is the only bus that gets you right to the mall.

We discovered this place by accident on a rainy day because we were looking for an indoor attraction. A local Tour guide put us on to it.Take the R27 bus from the Hotel Zone or about 16USD by taxi. I like shopping where the locals do and looking in their Wallmart etc. We found another Supermarket there local brand and the staff were so helpful with finding us the toiletries we wanted - got some cheap hair straighteners there as ours didn't seem to like the power supply in Mexico - very cheap for stuff like Tequilla.

Nearby was Cineopolis where they do movies in the American version with Spanish sub titles or dubbed into Spanish - marked DOB. We went to see the new Spiderman movie in 4DX which was not well explained to us beforehand. Tickets were cheap and I just though it was like an IMAX with extra leg room. Instead of which it was full 3D with moving seats, light effects and water spray and wind effects in the action sequences. It was a laugh even if I did end up like the lady on the Specsavers ad who accidentally sits on the roller coaster when looking for somewhere to take the weight off her feet!!

When we came out they were shooting some scenes for Mexico's next top Model outside one of the department stores - so that was a good bit of local colour as well. It was great to see the Mexicans with all their extended familes just hanging out and doing their regular stuff, much better than just hanging around the Hotel Zone which does not give you a good idea of the real Mexico.

In the mall is the Cinepolis movie complex, and inside is the VIP lounge, 6 theaters with leather recliner seating and servers bringing food and beverages including cocktails to your seats. The VIP area has its own lounge, food and restrooms behind its turnstile entry. AND THE TICKETS WERE 116 mx pesos! The movie and sound were digital, the acoustics were great, and when you buy your tickets you select your seat just like an airline! ITS AWESOME. Movies are English subtitled Spanish, some are dubbed. The website is great for picking film times and sub/dub selections. We saw 12 Years a Slave. My wife ordered a marguerita, frozen, it was excellent.

Basically a mall full of american stores. Reminds you of a mall anywhere in the US really. Good prices, and no need to haggle really makes it a nice get away from the constant price battles in the hotel and on the beach. Getting there might be a challenge. DO NOT TAKE A CAB ANYWHERE! Those cab drivers are all swindlers, promising 1 price and demanding another. Truly vile human beings.

Someone from the hotel conceirge recommended this place and it was the worse idea EVER! We waited about 45 minutes for a bus to take us there and had to walk a few blocks once the bus dropped us off. Once we got there we instantly realized that NO ONE looked like us nor spoke our language. Needless to say, we made a quick exit and got the #*!! out of there.

My title says it all it is a big American style mall with a good combination of American and Mexican shops. We tend to avoid designer labels so I can't comment on the designer stores but we found some lovely Mexican boutiques and the prices were reasonable and haggle/hassle free. We had a good day of shopping and lovely snacks and ice cream in the food mall which had plenty of choice.

Getting there takes a while. We went on the R27 bus from the hotel zone, although these buses are nowhere near as regular as the R1 & R2 so be patient and watch the world going by as you wait. On the way back you need to find the right bus stand and wait again. As you look at the mall from the road the R27 stand is far down to the left (opp end to Chedraui). We love the buses in Mexico especially when you get added entertainment in the form of a travelling guitarist. Great value too at 8.5 pesos per person.
