Drinking Water Well Sampling Map - North of I-94/M-14
New 1,4-dioxane detections in drinking water wells farther north in Scio Township, closer to the Huron River, were found starting in 2021. The map below shows the locations and results of drinking water samples collected north of I-94/M-14. The map can be enlarged by clicking on it.
1,4-Dioxane Groundwater Plume Maps
The below maps of the groundwater plume are available from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE). Please keep in mind that a plume is a 3-dimensional distribution of contaminants in groundwater. Plume shape is affected by source spreading, geology, hydrology, and biological activities. The estimated plume boundaries on 2-dimensional maps are unable to show the depth to contamination or thickness of contaminated zone. Therefore, not all wells shown within the plume boundaries have detectable levels of 1,4-dioxane.

Interactive Web Map
EGLE has created an interactive web map for the Gelman Sciences site that provides historic and current information related to the investigation and remediation of the 1,4-dioxane groundwater contamination. The goal of the web map is for users to be able to view the data that is used by EGLE geologists and engineers in developing models created to describe the lithology and groundwater contamination plumes over 30 years of monitoring.
