The Amherst girls basketball team is preparing for a fresh start in its starting lineup and on the sideline.
On April 11, Amherst athletics announced that former Comets coach Dave Zvara will replace John Rositano, pending board approval.
This was announced in a post from Amherst’s X account.

Amherst went 13-11 (7-7 in Southwestern Conference) this past season, as it won a playoff game against Canton GlenOak, 31-28, but bowed out of the Division I tournament in a 43-35 sectional finals loss to Medina Highland.
The Comets were led by All-Ohioan Kristen Kelley and all-district selection Kayla Ferancy, who each reached the 1,000-point milestone for their careers. They were two of the five senior starters, along with Ava Darmos, Natalie Pleban and Bradyn Silvasy.
Rositano's record in his three years with Amherst was 30-39. This was his second coaching stint with Amherst, as he also coached Lorain boys basketball in between.
Zvara (Amherst Class of 1969) was a former coach of the Comets in 1979-80 and from 1992-2000. He went on to coach Lorain County Community College women’s basketball and Avon Lake.
At Avon Lake, he was named Lorain County Coach of the Year three times (2014, ‘19 and ‘20). He was awarded Ohio’s Division I Coach of the Year in 2019. He had a record of 141-109 and went 5-16 in his final season in 2021-22.
