Biography
Since King Robert forced his ancestor Bouchard le Barbu in 997 to exchange his post on Île Saint-Denis - from where he ransomed boats passing on the Seine including those of the Abbey of Saint-Denis , bringing Abbot Vivian to bring him to justice before the king - for the domain of Montmorency in order to move it away from the abbey, the family did their best to enlarge their domain to the detriment of that of the abbey and to decrease the power of this establishment by founding competing establishments. Following in his father's footsteps on this point, in 1169 Bouchard V allowed the Grandmontains religious to settle in his forest of Montmorency.This community becomes the Grandmontain priory of Meynel, also called the priory of Meynel-lez-Maffliers, in the current town ofMaffliers(Val-d'Oise).

Marriage and children

In 1173 he married Laurence de Hainaut (d August 9, 1181), daughter of Baudouin IV of Hainaut and aunt of Queen Isabelle, wife of King Philippe II Auguste; from which he has:

Mathieu II of Montmorency (d 1230);
Eve de Montmorency, dead without posterity;
Thibaut?
Alix de Montmorency (1173 d February 15, 1221 , buried in the Abbey of Haute-Bruyère), married to Simon IV de Montfort , Count of Leicester (1204), Viscount of Albi, Béziers and Carcassonne (1213-1218) , count of Toulouse of (1215-1218). They notably
Amaury de Montfort, Constable of France, wife Béatrice de Bourgogne from the Maison de France. He is the stem of the branch of the counts of Montfort-L'Amaury, assimilated by the house of Dreux ;
Guy de Montfort, count of Bigorre by his wife Pernelle de Comminges;
Jeanne.
Bouchard V also has a natural son, Josselin de Montmorency (d Saint Jean-d'Acre 1191).
