Countess Alexandra talks about life not being perfect

Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg, the former wife of Prince Joachim of Denmark, recently gave an interview after it became known earlier this year that her former boyfriend was a criminal.

Alexandra had been in a relationship with Tony Lindkold, whom she met after hiring his carpenter firm’s assistance during her move to a villa in Charlottenlund, Copenhagen. The relationship between Alexandra and Tony, a former policeman and agent at the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, lasted for a year and a half.

Countess Alexandra later found out, through the press, that her boyfriend had been criminally convicted in 2015 for violating copyright, selling furniture created by well-known designers. He was arrested for one week in 2014. The Countess ended her relationship as soon as she found out about Tony’s crime.

During the interview with the Danish newspaper Se & Hør, Alexandra reflected on how life wasn’t just a rose garden. She said that we can only live going forward, and we can’t understand what we went through by going backwards.

The Hong Kong-born Alexandra Manley became Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1995 when she married Prince Joachim, the younger son of Queen Margrethe II and the late Prince Henrik. Alexandra was a popular and active member of the Danish Royal Family during her marriage, carrying out a large number of engagements both in Denmark and abroad.

Prince Joachim and Alexandra had two sons together: Prince Nikolai (b. 1999) and Prince Felix (b. 2002). Prince Nikolai started a modelling career last year. The couple announced their separation in September 2004, getting a divorce the following April.

After her divorce from Prince Joachim, Alexandra remained a Princess of Denmark, but she was downgraded to the style of Her Highness. At the same time, Queen Margrethe created her the Countess of Frederiksborg.

Countess Alexandra married Martin Jørgensen on 3 March 2007, at which time she ceased to be a Princess and a member of the Royal Family. They eventually got a divorced in 2015.

Alexandra still carries out some engagements in connection with the patronages she retained after her first divorce and still can be seen at certain royal events. For instance, she attended the official celebration of Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday last May, and Prince Joachim’s 50th birthday celebrations earlier this month.
