Homewood-Flossmoor High School Reviews
Rating 4.12 out of 5 1,138 reviews
Due to the pandemic, my freshman year of high school consisted of sitting in front of a computer screen for hours on end. It took an emotional toll on me both physically and mentally as I saw the image of what I expected high school to slowly fade away. Despite these setbacks, I intended to view my high school years in a positive and life changing light. There were moments when I felt academic pressure because I was constantly surrounded by people who were award winners or in AP/IB classes, and as I compared myself to them, I felt lacking. Nevertheless, I involved myself in many activities that I was interested in, such as speech, track & field, theatre, choir. But most importantly, I formed long-lasting relationships. Both the teachers and the students were significant parts of those memories, as they instilled important values that I hold dear to my heart. I also participated in an event in my school where we toured in different states like Washington DC, New York and Pennsylvania.
H-F has been a really good school. The teachers care about the students. Administratively, there are some deficiencies, especially when communicating from one department to the next, but they do try hard to rectify situations when they occur. Students are restricted to a set schedule, which limits opportunities for electives. Overall, the school is a good place for learning.
As a student battling mental-health, my high school was very patient and offered many accommodations for me. My counselors and social workers worked with me tirelessly to help me feel comfortable in school with my disability. There were some times where ignorance was shown, however, administration never allowed those things to happen again. Homewood-Flossmoor High School has a plethora of programs and activities for students. I participate in the fine arts MVP program along with National Thespian Society. In these classes, my peers and I’s creativity and talent has been cultivated and cherished by our teachers. Although I am not athletic, HFHS coaches encouraged me to step out of my comfort shell and join the JV soccer team. I wasn’t great, but the coaches gave me plenty of playing time for my liking and opportunities to get better. Overall, I feel as though I have flourished here at HFHS.
