CBS announces three-hour season finale of Survivor with a virtual reunion special plus two-hour season premiere of The Amazing Race in May

CBS announced a three-hour finale for their epic 40th season of Survivor, which will pave the way for a two-hour premiere of the 32nd season of The Amazing Race.

The Survivor finale will air Wednesday, May 13 from 8 PM ET to 11 PM ET, which will  include a virtual reunion, according to a CBS press release.

One week later, CBS kicks off the 32nd season of The Amazing Race with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, May 20.

'When Survivor wraps one of its best seasons ever in May, we’re excited to schedule another signature reality series, The Amazing Race, to step seamlessly into the time period,' said Noriko Kelley, Executive Vice President, Program Planning & Scheduling, CBS Entertainment. 

The 40th season of Survivor was dubbed Winners at War, featuring a first in the reality show's history, with all 20 players having won the show previously. 

After 39 days in the wilderness, host Jeff Probst will crown the winner of the $2 million prize during the finale.

While the show usually holds a live reunion special with cast members reuniting with Probst, this year's reunion special will be held via video conferencing with host Jeff Probst talking with all 20 players live.

The week before the finale, the penultimate Season 40 episode will span two hours, airing Wednesday, May 6 from 8 PM ET to 10 PM ET on CBS.

Then on Wednesday, May 20, The Amazing Race will kick off its 32nd season, with 11 new teams, which was filmed before the COVID-19 outbreak.

Host Phil Keoghan will debut the new season from the iconic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. 

While the 11 teams have yet to be revealed, the players will be traveling to Trinidad and Tobago, France, Germany, Kazakhstan and Brazil, to name a few locales. 

The team that crosses the finish line first will be crowned the winners and receive the $1 million prize.

Survivor was created by Charlie Parsons, with Mark Burnett, Jeff Probst, Matt VanWagenen, Jesse Jensen and Kahaia Pearson serving as the executive producers. 

The Amazing Race was created by Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri, who executive produce with Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Mark Vertullo and Phil Keoghan.

There is no word yet on how the COVID-19 outbreak will impact future seasons of Survivor and The Amazing Race.
