This is my 5th DOVER COLORING BOOK.this one isn'the quite what I had hoped for.The pictures to color do not cover the entire page. Yes there is a discrimination of the animals on each page and all about it's life in the woods, everything you might want to know about that particular animal on that page.The last page of this coloring book has an alphabetized common name as well as scientific name of each animal in the book.In my opinion they could have made these photos larger without losing the bottom text.As for the picture, some of the pictures are too darkened due to the detail of the picture, leaving very little left for the actual coloring.I don't feel that the younger coloring inthuseist would enjoy these pages.Other DOVER COLORING BOOK givesyou much better pages to color.Hope this helps,THANKS FOR READING, BYE

Coloring for me is a huge stress reliever!! I always bought childrens coloring books in the past and colored them. When adult coloring books started hitting the stores I was very excited. I was really glad to see that apparently there are a lot of adults out there that enjoy coloring just as much as I do. I love nature and thought this would be a cute book to color. After it arrived I was a little disappointed in it. The pages have entirely too many thick black details on all of the pages, at first glance all you see is black. It really looks like there is hardly anything to color. I would have liked this book without all of that detail. When I color I just need the picture to color and I will fill in my own details with different coordinating colors the way I want it to look. I will say that the scenes are absolutely beautiful in this coloring book though, and I would have given it 5 stars if it had not had all the black busy details.

While they color, I read the information about the animals, birds and plants that is provided at the bottom of each page, and look up additional images on my phone. We learn interesting facts, and they’re always looking forward to coloring book time. Highly recommended.

The concept of this book is a great one, but I wasn't pleased with the execution of the idea. The images in the book are somewhat small - and very detailed. That is, for some images there seems to be more black from the outlines than white of the paper to be colored. That level of tiny detail can be difficult for some age groups who might want to color these animals. It's also a problem for, say, a person who wants to practice coloring without bothering to do their own drawings. I think the dark black lines take up too much space leaving little room for color. A few of the images are larger, or of larger subjects, or have a more simple background, but not many.

This is one of my favorite coloring books, excellent for adult coloring and very educational for children, as well! Dover has been publishing these kinds of books for many years, on a large number of topics, long before the recent adult coloring book revolution, and I bet you can find some on your bookshelf that you bought years ago! The prices for these Dover books are very reasonable, too, often $3.99 or less, and this one is just $2.81 with free 2-day shipping if you have Amazon prime! The only drawback for these books is that they are printed back-to-back so if you use markers they bleed through and ruin the picture on the other side. However the detailed drawings really call for colored pencils where you can do shading, and this book is perfect for that! Or, you can copy the page you want to color on good quality copy paper of the weight you prefer (I like the Hammerhill color copy cover paper, 60 lb. weight, which is like a very light cardboard like you would use as a cover to a report). This is a wonderful book for adult coloring and also for children, with the wonderful detailed scientific narratives at the bottom of each page. I highly recommend it!
