Synopsis

The protagonist of the story, Konoha Inoue, is a seemingly normal senior high 2nd year student. His high school life, other than a hinted incident 2 years ago, can be summed up as normal- if one can dismiss the secret fact that he used to be a female bestselling romance author. Due to that incident, however, he has now vowed never to write again.

This continued on until he was forced to join the literary club by the literary club president, the 3rd year female student Amano Tooko, a beautiful girl who has a taste for eating literary works. Now he has been tasked with writing her snack every day after school.

A fateful encounter. Do you cherish it? Do you despise it? These encounters can change your life forever. Though they may not last eternally. "Bungaku Shoujo" is a simple 1 hour 40 minutes movie about a male protagonist who used to be a famous author. However, because of an incident, he vowed never to write again. Until he met a girl who eats book pages as snacks.

The story is as messed up as a girl eating book pages as snacks. Aside from the mysteries that I was unable to understand because I watched this when my brain wasn't fully functioning. The story overall gives ...

Mixed Feelings
For whatever interest Bungaku Shoujo's premise had for me, this movie proved to be quite the mixed bag. The movie is focused on male lead Konoha meeting with the titular heroine of the movie, Touko, who has an unusual interest in eating pages from books with the girl helping out Konoha in dealing with the strained relationship he has with former girlfriend, Miu, related to his past in submitting for a writer's contest. The strained relationship negatively effected Konoha's interest in writing and much of the movie is focused on trying to have the young man regain his confidence to write by moving past whatever ...

Bungaku Shoujo (“Book girl” / “literature girl”) is a disappointing nothing burger of content.

While it doesn’t do anything explicitly wrong (no obvious plot holes or random points that make no sense), it also doesn’t do anything well enough to warrant any level of praise.

It’s just so…. Bland.

Starting off with a premise about a girl who literally eats words was a great idea, yet the movie fails to do anything noteworthy with that promising concept. Why does she eat the books? How did she start? Does she eat anything else, or is she a magical entity only requiring literature for sustenance?

I’d love to know, but unfortunately, ...
