What is this, Berserk of Gluttony?
Gobzo from tensei slime if he existed in the Goblin Slayer world with B.o.G. stat system.
Re:Monster's novel started in 2011, so it's entirely possible that it inspired Berserk of Gluttony, Goblin Slayer, and Reincarnated As A Slime.
I swore I saw a tweet from the Mukoshu Tensei author as well recently who was looking forward to this adaptation.
wouldnt be suprised if he took a little inspiration from this.
is BoG a "so bad it's good" show?
No such thing exist for me. If it's bad is bad
BoG is simply a generic fantasy anime that has videogame stats and skills with an OP MC, but at least is not an isekai
After the first episode of Berserk of Gluttony, I said "This is terrible. I'm going to watch all of it!"
Then it stayed terrible the whole time and I kept watching. Truly the burning dumpster phenomena.
more like reincarnated as slime
- you become monster, eat everything and gain its skills, evolve, build up etc.
That poor Orc, he was going on a stroll, minding his own business
If he didn't want to get killed and eaten, he shouldn't have been made of bacon.
Definitely thinking the orc was as sentient as the goblins
It looked like he was heading home from work
His hammer looked more like a tool than a weapon
He did learn orc language from it
That orc fight was more brutal than I expected
And the 2nd one getting ripped apart by wolves.
Emma from Tsukimichi would be forced to go to town in that world.
Emma understand some magic though, so it would not be a one-sided battle.
Yeah, it's so rare to see bones coming out and things like that in anime! (or anywhere, really)
Goblins are savages!
I see I'm not the only one who caught that detail. It did indeed feel pretty novel.
yeah and it seems like they should all be put down
There are only 2 types of "good" goblins. Dead goblins and Tempest citizens.
Bro got jumped
I’m honestly surprised with how gorey it is and the animation is solid.
his calf bone sticking out from the flesh after being broken made me wince
too bad the rest of the show feels subpar ngl, from the animation to the plot
goblin slayer noises Finaly a show with cute goblins that are also rapist monsters. Goblin Slayer would have a feild day with this one.
The cutest of them all (Gobmi) isn't a rapist, at least!
(as far as we know)
The fact they are rapists AND there's female goblins is confusing. But mabey they just do it for fun. Our sociopath protagonist doesn't care either way i guess.
I read this years ago, I think the goblins have a lopsided gender parity, more boy gobs then girl gobs basically.
So far we've seen one female goblin. I think you're on to something here.
Edit: So they are like Smurfs.
wasn't it also because they goblin girls have longer pregnancies? or I might misremember it
I think it's probably for fun (unless they come up with something about how female goblins can't reproduce or something).
The fact that they hunted&ate an orc (a sentient/humanoid creature) kinda shows they have a disregard for other species!
Let's not forget in a flashback he showed he literaly ate humans in his past life, bro was a cannibal. Eating orc is nothing
So does tons of other series treat orcs as 2 leg pigs that humans hunt and eat. Even the cute ones like Kuma Bear and Abilities Average.
“But bacon tastes good, pork chops taste good.”
Disregard for other species often goes out the window when the taste buds kick in.
Might just be more practical than having your own women out of commission for 9 months or maybe humans give birth to better/smarter goblins.
On second thought. You only see a few female goblins. The ratio is off. Which explains it.
Once you go hume, the lady gobs leave the room.
Considering how the ratios are looking, its probably easier to kidnap humans than make female goblins
Well, we shall see based on that after credits scene.
Yet
Next room over is the stud pen.
so far the cute goblins are not rapists, they are similar to the cute goblin kids in goblin slayer... that some want to spare but goblin slayer warns not to.
But you're also more likely to find good goblins here. So far none of the new goblin group has started raping or such. The only goblin from the new batch that we have confirmation has even seem them is Goburou. And these goblins don't seem to steal from human villages (so far).
One thing is for sure: humans would definitely return the favour, given there are female goblins and they are cute.
I'm guessing only Hobs have the working equipment for it. MC recently got [Libido] so we'll see, I guess.
That libido notification made me think that getting skill automatically as you eat can actually be dangerous, because you can't control what passive skill you get.
He kinda confirmed it as well since he mentioned about the skill "Order" having the effect of making him want to lead them.
I mean it's okay if the skill only has positive effect, but sometimes some skill has negative effect too.
I thought he meant that the skill "Order" made the others more willing to be lead by him.
Yes, the female hobbits are super hot too. Really, the implication seems to be that the young goblins are innocent, and the old goblins/hobgoblins who are away on a raiding/rape trip are the rapist monsters.
My theory is that the older goblins will come with their "prizes" and threaten our cute crew, forcing a civil conflict for the leadership of the clan. And he will probably just let all the human women go once he takes over his clan.
I could see him eating the women tbh lol
"You have learned the abilities: [Menstration], [Pregnancy], [Lactation]"
I'm not so sure about that. That's not the vibe I'm getting from the show. The MC feels very cutthroat and seems to be embracing the monster lifestyle.
He was literally munching on humans in the flashback so he's been a monster even before he became a goblin.
He’s a “only cares about numbers” kinda guy I feel.
Well, we will se next week.
no he won't
but maybe if the rice rolls right, he will
These goblin designs, even before the Hobgoblin transformation look way too human for me to take it seriously as "monstrous and ugly"
It could be like the So I’m a Spider Isekai. Whenever we saw her from her own perspective, she was a cute spider. But whenever we saw her from a human perspective, she was a horrific spider monster.
Yeah, also the promotional material kinda spoil how MC would look like. It's very cool for a goblin.
You mean like how Makoto is labeled as an orc variant in Tsukimichi?…
Do I need to watch Monster first before starting Re:Monster?
yeah
Everyone ready to learn what Stockholm Syndrome is and what it looks like?

Edit for the edit above: Kay
Eh, while cops did fucked up, the lady it was coined after was clearly quite nutty crazy in defending the villains, I've read what she wrote and she was actually good example of this or maybe some other crazy syndrome.
We should be wary of throwing out the good science with the bad, just because of the popular politics. You can see similar thing going with that research that people who see abandoned things (cars, building etc) are more likely to trash it. Sure, it was used it some very dubious policing strategies based on catching graffiti sprayers and similar "criminals", but it doesn't mean the research was invalid like many people like to claim currently.
That's a gross misrepresentation. It's not solely based on a single incident. Certainly there is a mounting pile of valid criticism for Stockhold syndrome, but there is no excuse to misrepresent and lie about it
Do I need to watch the other Re: shows (re:creators etc) to watch this or are they self contained?
https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/mhn4v7/the_ultimate_re_series_watch_order_guide/
I asked on the exactly right day for that response :D
Most re:Shows have nothing to do with each other, they just stole the naming technique.
Not stolen - Re:used
Re:cycled even.
Thank you.
This is a spin-off series, so it's not strictly necessary, but you will miss a lot of the background information and references.
Yeah, he should at least watch ReLIFE which showed the main character before he became a cannibalous super villain, and how he met the girl who ended up killing him in that flashback.
Wait I'm pretty sure ReLife is from Re series, not Re: or is it actually connected? I haven't caught up with the new stuff
Re is the prequel series to Re:.
bro what the heacl. pretty sure thats now how the story went lol
Which series shows the life in his original world? Pretty interesting with unique ability, war and such
As others have said, you'll want to watch ReLife for that one. Don't worry if the first few episodes seem confusing, that's normal.
There's a lot of references from other Re: series but not really that important imo
Maybe throw in ReLIFE.
Fucking wild how they just show human women and implied that their being raped then glossed over it.
My Goblin Slayer senses were tingling after that one
Fun fact: Goblin Slayer's novel started in 2016. Reincarnated As A Slime's novel started in 2013. Re:Monster's novel started in 2011.
So slime took monster evolution, and GS took other race females as breeding stock from this.
Probably not, but it's funny how they both have something in common with Re:Monster.
I do wonder why goblins being rapist is such a thing in Japan. I don't think I've ever seen that in any western media.
The OG Gublin Slayer is Lucius the Goblin Slayer from Rage of Bahamut... also from 2011.
Actually it’s probably from Berserk… that would be my guess anyways.
started the devour-sekai trend seen in the spider, fureta and slym
