To my ears, there are a handful of English bands who are true pioneers in their stylistic pursuits. The Beatles, Yes, ELP, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, The Police and Dire Straits (sorry if I omitted one of your favorites...this is, after all, my opinion) all have musical and artistic refinement that seems to be lacking in many musical aggregations on EITHER side of the Atlantic. Quite often bands will disintegrate at the pinnacle of their success, either because of artistic restlessness, or, loss of a key member. Yes encountered both of these unbinding threats and, through recruitment of what turned out to be only temporary replacements (Bill Bruford is the exception here), managed to survive and mature. In fact, portions of this documentary were filmed during a Yes "Union" tour in which ALL former members of the band participated (with the exception of original guitarist, Tony Banks). Every member has recorded solo albums but the musical vision of the band seems to hold the strongest attraction to those involved. There have been some complaints voiced by other reviewers about the lack of actual performance footage or bonus booklets in this DVD. I, for one, didn't have to have any frills to appreciate the intent of the filmmakers. Nor do I feel shortchanged because the songs were incomplete. In my opinion this should not be regarded as a performance DVD. It is a documented historical account of one of England's finest, most artistic and long-lasting bands.

One of the most comprehensive and revealing docs of Yes,with Vintage clips and stock footage of the Group included! 2 and a Half Hours of Magic, with 1991 Interviews, recorded at the "Re-Union" tour, the only one featuring all 8 of Both complete versions of the group,1972 and 1983 versions together! Soon after,Bruford and Howe left and soon after one more Lp,Jon Anderson would also leave, followed by then newest member Trevor Rabin...All the ancidotes are included here! A satisfying Video overall! Take a journey through the year, and rediscover Yes! Now and well as Then, the word was,is, and always will be "YES!" (For Complete Videos From 1977 to 1991,I suggest the DVD of"Greatest Video Hits",on ATCO/Rhino Home Video.)

Disappointed this was every other region BUT region 1, even though it was listed as region 1. Should've read the reviews more closely. Never have run into this problem until now, so I guess I'll be more careful to check reviews for region issues. I love this documentary, though. I used to rent it on VHS all the time back in the 90s. So, definitely not knocking the film, I just need a DVD of it that will actually play in the U.S.

This is probably the best available documentary about the entire career of Yes. All it's personnel changes, and even a little detailed explanation of some of their advanced technology. Bill Bruford was quite a genius and I enjoyed hearing him explain all his intentions as an experimentalist drummer and percussionist. Rick Wakeman has a lot to say too, and I truly appreciate his art as a keyboardist as well as his dry wit as he explained his role in Yes and his other recording ventures.
Plus, Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Peter Banks, Alan White, Steve Howe, Patrick Moraz, Tony Kaye, Geoff Downes, and Trevor Rabin, all have something to say or have been mentioned about their role with Yes. This is a well-done documentary.
The only drawback is that you never really see any fully played performances, only snippets of studio work and some parts of some stage performances. It's mostly dialogue but quite interesting and enjoyable. Every Yes fan should have this.

If you're not familiar with the music of Yes then you will find this DVD very frustrating as it doesn't contain any complete songs. For fans of the band it's a must. Interviews with all of the band members, as of 1991, with no holds barred in terms of conflicts and issues that occured within the band during it's history. At times the guys come off as a bit arrogant, but why not, in a genre that rewards mindless drivel they were willing to push the envelope and wound up succeeding.

I remember buying this on VHS, back in the mid nineties, and I actually wore the tape out, because I loved it so much, Iam glad to see that it has a DVD release. The documentary itself, shows the band Yes, from it's beginning's, with line up changes, and disagreements within the band, all the members of Yes are incredibly talented, and when you have that amount of talent spilling out of the studio, there is going to be disagreements along the way. Interesting to hear Bill Bruford talking about how they would disagree a lot about how the music should sound.
The Interviews with all the band members are interesting, and Insightful, it's a shame that Peter Banks is not on the Documetary, just to get his side of the situations in Yes. Patrick Moraz is also absent, I would have loved to have heard the recording process of Relayer, which I think is one of their finest recordings.
The story of Yes was expanded even further on the Classic Artist - The Story Of Yes, from which does include Peter Banks, and also Artist Roger Dean, and Producer Eddie Offord. Yesyears, is fun to watch, and Rick and Chris come across quite funny in this Documentary.
Recommended, get it while it is still available.
