An abandoned X-Men movie script accurately represented Cyclops as seen in Marvel Comics and would have finally done justice to the live-action version of him. After audiences complained Marvel had too many solo heroes on the superhero roster back in the early 1960s, the X-Men were created. The team comprised a handful of mutants, all with different personalities and abilities, making them quite a formidable superhero team. Professor Charles Xavier, who dreamt of peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans, led the team and recruited five young mutants who would be able to help him achieve that goal.

Scott Summers was part of the original X-Men lineup, and he's always been a prominent member of the team. X-Men's Cyclops used a visor to help control his powers and became known for being able to project a powerful beam of concussive, red energy from his eyes. Summers was featured in many of the live-action X-Men movies, but when it came to correctly bringing his character to the big screen, things took a huge downturn. However, longtime X-Men editor John Ottman shared his abandoned script for X-Men: Fear The Beast, which showed a version of Cyclops' character that could have combated this issue.

Fear The Beast Would Have Used Cyclops As The X-Men's True Leader

Of all the X-Men characters in the era of 20th Century Fox, Cyclops was one of the most poorly used. Instead of the X-Men movies focusing on him being a great leader, strategist, and tactician out in the field, Scott Summers was treated as more of a frenemy to Wolverine. Marvel's Cyclops didn't lead the X-Men in any of the live-action films. Wolverine had been given all the spotlight, leaving Summers to be his sidekick or someone he could lash out at. Cyclops' character was severely underdeveloped and given little to no personality, which was a massive waste given his potential.

If X-Men: Fear The Beast had turned into a live-action film, it would have finally done justice to Cyclops. The abandoned movie script showed Scott to be the complex leader figure he was supposed to be. For example, during a Danger Room action sequence to help a group of young students from Attack-Bots, Cyclops was the one calling the shots, giving orders to Storm, Jean Grey, and Beast. Here, Marvel's Cyclops was the X-Men's true leader. Even though it was a simulation, Cyclops took it seriously, knowing he was the one to make the tough calls.

Will The MCU Do Justice To Cyclops?

It appears Marvel looks to add mutants to the MCU in the near future, and if it does, it would be wise for the studio to do the right thing for Cyclops' character - both because of his poor on-screen history, and because he's a solid character to use to flesh out the X-Men themselves. With this in mind, the most logical way for Cyclops to have a larger role in the live-action films would be for him to take center stage as the X-Men's true leader, as he was in many of the comics. Indeed, this will likely happen when Cyclops and the other X-Men join the MCU.

Over the years, Marvel has done a great job of listening to input from their audience while also delivering accurate representations of their comic book heroes to the big screen. A big emphasis on fan service has been prevalent in both their movies and subsequent TV shows in recent years. Under the guidance of Kevin Feige's MCU, it seems that Cyclops will finally get the justice he deserves in future X-Men movies.
