Boarding

Our boarding accommodation is spacious and of high quality, housing pupils in a mix of small dormitories and (especially for the older years) double or single studies, some with ensuite or private bathrooms.  All houses have a range of common rooms and other facilities – kitchens, bathrooms and games rooms. Boys can board in either Tudor or Bayley, while girl boarders spend evenings and weekends in their purpose-built hall of residence, Hadden Hall. This offers purpose-built boarding accommodation in a mix of small dormitories, common rooms, single and double studies. During the day all girls, day or boarding, congregate in either Clarkson or Roslyn.

Our Home, Your Home

Boarding allows pupils to enjoy the independence and community spirit which comes from living with their peers. It can be great fun, and it also helps young people develop self-discipline, confidence, and an ability to get on with others. Some pupils join as day pupils but choose to become boarders later in their school careers, especially in the Sixth Form when it offers a stepping stone towards university life. For others, particularly those whose parents live abroad or have to travel extensively or move around for their jobs, boarding offers stability and continuity throughout their time at school.

Houses

‘A home away from home’ may be a cliché but we do believe that Wrekin should be a second family, and a second home for those who stay with us. Our accommodation, currently undergoing a programme of renovation, houses pupils in a mix of small dormitories and (especially for the older years) double or single studies, some with ensuite or private bathrooms.  All houses have a range of common rooms and other facilities – kitchens, bathrooms and games rooms. Boys can board in either Tudor or Bayley, while girl boarders spend evenings and weekends in their purpose-built hall of residence, Hadden Hall.

Support and Wellbeing

Here at Wrekin we put the wellbeing of our pupils at the centre of all we do and as such have a comprehensive pastoral care system designed to ensure that any problems can be resolved before they become issues. For medical problems we have a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Centre staffed by State Registered Nurses and a School Doctor is on call two mornings a week.

For pastoral support pupils can approach their Houseparent, tutor, prefects or members of the peer support team. We also have a visiting School Counsellor and a Director of Wellbeing.

Down Time!

We are proud that many UK and international pupils choose Wrekin to be their ‘home away from home’ and as such we know that an active social programme is a vital part of their education during their time with us.

TWIG (The Wrekin International Group) is a thriving social society specifically run by and designed for our international pupils. Social events, quizzes and TWIG ‘mixers’ enable international pupils to share and celebrate their own traditions and culture, as well as learning about others.

Weekend trips and excursions are important to allow our pupils some ‘down time’ as well as increase their cultural knowledge and awareness. We are lucky to be in an area steeped in history and beauty, and take full advantage of the many local tourist areas when planning our boarders’ trips. We also travel further afield with trips to London and Birmingham always popular.

We have exeats throughout the year, but pupils are welcome to stay with us during those weekends.
