Lake Winfield Scott provides a great backdrop for a family photo on a sunny autumn afternoon.

Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area is a destination recreation location situated high in a mountain valley.  The recreation area offers  year-round recreation opportunities including camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, swimming and hiking centered around the beautiful 18-acre lake.  The campground is divided into a north loop and a south loop.

 

At a Glance

Current Conditions: The south and north loops have been reopened at reduced rates for camping in accordance with the following modified operating plan:
  • No reservations, first come/first served, pay via envelope in the fee tube.​
  • Campers will need to provide their own water – NO WATER AVAILABLE ONSITE.
  • No showers or flush toilets will be available, bath houses will be closed. Portable toilets are available.
  • No cabin rentals.
  • Day use areas, swim beach, lake will be open.
Operational Hours: Open 24 hours a day. Quiet hours 10pm – 6am.
Reservations: South and north loops no reservations, first come/first served, pay via envelope in the fee tube. (NO WATER AVAILABLE ONSITE.)
Fees: Peak Season 
Single site: $24/site/night
Site with electric: $35/site/night
Double site: $48.00
Group Campsite: $75/night
Cabin Fees: $125/night

Passes: The Interagency Senior and Access Passes and the Golden Age and Access Passports are accepted. These passes entitle the pass holder to a 50% discount for single family campsites (excluding hook-ups) and some day use fees.  Click here for detailed information on passes!

Directions:

From Blairsville, GA take U.S. 19/129 south for 10 miles; turn right on GA Hwy. 180 for 7 miles.

Activities

Campground Camping

The Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area consists of 31 camping sites neatly arranged in two loops (north and south). There are no water or electric hook-ups or dump station available in the both loops.

  • Flush and vault facilities 
  • Standard amenities (i.e. grill, picnic tables, lantern post, etc)

The north loop is available for tent and RV camping and offers 17 sites on a first-come, first-serve basis one double site and one accessible site.

The south loop offers 14 campsites available for tent and RV camping and is available by reservation only.

RV Camping

Single site with electric and water: $30/site/night.

No dump station.

Group Camping

Lake Winfield Scott offers a group camping area (4 campsites) which can accommodate up to 25 people and 8 vehicles. The group campsite shares the same sanitary facilities as the south camp loop. The group campsite cannot accommodate large RVs (tents and pop-ups only).

There are no water or electric hook-ups or dump station available in the group site

Cabin Rentals

Would you like to spend some quiet time in the north Georgia mountains? Imagine waking up in the morning and taking a short 2-minute walk to the lake to go fishing or just enjoy the scenery and feel closer to nature. The rustic cabin at scenic Lake Winfield Scott can be yours for a couple of days or up to 2 weeks. The rustic cabin is two stories with each floor being one large open room. The downstairs room serves as living, dining room, and kitchen.

  • assorted pots and pans, utensils, plates, glasses, cups, and flatware washer and dryer

Please note that bed and bath linens are not provided. There is a wood stove in the living room and electric heater in the bathroom. Wood is not provided. There is no telephone or television. Pets are not allowed.  10 person maximum occupancy and 4 vehicles.  

Lake and Pond Fishing

The 18-acre Lake Winfield Scott is routinely stocked during trout season. An accessible fishing pier is offered in the day use area. Fish species are catfish, trout, perch, brim and bass.

Hiking Trails:

Lake Winfield Scott Trail
Length: 0.4 mile
This trail leads around the lake

Jarrard Gap Trail
Length: 1.0 mile
This blue-blazed trail begins in the Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area and climbs gradually to the Appalachian Trail at Jarrard Gap. A loop hike can be made by using the Jarrard Gap, Appalachian, and Slaughter Creek Trails.

Slaughter Creek Trail
Length: 2.7 miles
This blue-blazed trail begins in the Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area and climbs gradually to the Appalachian Trail south of Blood Mountain. A portion of this trail is within the Blood Mountain Wilderness.
