Repasz Band Date Discrepancy[edit]

In the timeline, the date '1830' is cited as the year of foundation of the Repasz Band. I have a downloaded copy of the score for 'The Repasz Band March', published by the Vandersloot Music Co., in Williamsport, in 1901.[I've lost the download link.] On the front page, there is a photograph of the band, taken some time after 1896 [as evidenced by the inscription on the building behind them]. In the picture, one can clearly see the wording on the Bass drum, which reads, 'REPASZ BAND, Organized Aug. 1840 WILLIAMSPORT, PA.'

I would like to post my copy of it here. Despite being registered on Wikipedia for several years, and having followed the tutorial, I am still unable to do so here. [No Upload button or link that works for me.] There is, however, a slightly poorer quality copy of the same picture [from the same archived source, judging by the markings] on Wikipedia, at:

You will need to enlarge this version of the picture for the drum text to be more-or-less legible.

It's possible that the inscription on the drum is wrong, but also possible that there is a typo on the article page, or else in the reference source used. Hence the 10 year discrepancy.

The Repasz Band's official webiste has a history that says it was founded in 1831. When I checked the original ref it said 1831 too, so I have changed it. Thanks for the notice. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:52, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! The picture on the drum is one of Daniel Repasz, who joined the then Williamsport Band in 1840. g0mrb 08:50, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Timeline/City Firsts: Should they be moved to the History of Williamsport Page?[edit]

They seem like they belong on the History of Williamsport, Pennsylvania page since it looks like it was already started there but not finished. On the Williamsport, Pennsylvania wiki page, both items look out of place. Yeah, I think so. Erikeltic (Talk) 23:27, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Economic and cultural development section[edit]

If anyone would like to help me, I would like to update this section. There has been a lot going on the the downtown area and I have many photos that could be used. Let me know if the authors would like to collaborate with me on this section. Projects like the new Church Street Transportation Center and Kohl's should be added. Plus I think the growing arts scene should be mentioned as well. This section should really be expanded and updated. I can provide updated photos. Djorion (talk) 19:02, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"The city is the cultural, financial, and commercial center of Central Pennsylvania."[edit]

Is it, though? What about Harrisburg? Or State College? Williamsport is apparently in the S/WB TV market, and those two city propers are in NEPA. Was this just copied from an advert? Seems kind of like it. I'll leave it alone so whoever put that in can defend themselves. YellowAries2010 (talk) 08:06, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
