William "Bill" Powell, age 79, a lifetime resident of Needles, Calif., passed away peacefully on Friday, September 24, 2021. Born on September 13, 1942, to the late Carl and Sally Powell, he was the sixth of eight Powell children.
Bill loved his hometown and all local sports, and if there was a softball game being played, chances are you could find him sitting in his chair under the mesquite tree down the left field line. Bill loved his family, his church, the river and the desert. He never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; sisters, Katie, Francis, Beverly; and brothers, Shag, Pat and Mike.
He leaves behind four children, Cherva (Patrick) Murch, Bill (Jennifer) Powell, Jr., Jessica (Ronny) Sommers, Kate (Mike) Smith; brother, Jerry (Marsha) Powell; 14 grandchildren, Pilar (Jordan) Butterfield, Preslee and Paige Murch, Rafe Sommers, Paxton Murch, Addisen Sommers, Lena Butterfield, Brice Sommers, Aurora and Wyatt Butterfield, Harper and Rigley Powell, Parker and Cole Smith; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and great friends.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Mohave Valley United Methodist Church, 1593 E. Lipan Rd., Fort Mohave, AZ 86426.
Bill Powell will be missed. In lieu of flowers, if anyone is interested, there is a Powell Family Memorial Scholarship through the NYDEF. The address is PO Box 47, Needles, CA 92363.
