The shed floor is built with pressure treated 2×6’s and pressure treated 4×4’s.
Cut two 2×6’s to 16′ long for the band. Cut thirteen 2×6’s to 11′ 9″ long for the floor joist. Nail 3 1/2″ nails through the 2×6 band and into the floor joist. Floor joist 16″ O.C.
Attach the 16′ long 4×4 pressure treated skids to the bottom of the floor frame. Square out the floor frame by measuring diagonally until both sides measure the same. Secure the 4×4 skids by nailing 3 1/2″ nails through the floor frame and into the 4×4 skids.
Cut to size and install the 3/4″ tongue and groove plywood. Secure the floor plywood with 2″ deck screws.
The front and back wall frame is built using 2×4 lumber.
The wall studs are 16″ O.C.
Assemble the back wall frame as shown on illustration above ( see illustration below for close up view ).
The front wall frame will have a door and window, for instructions on framing the door and window see the pages below:
Assemble the front and back wall frame using 3 1/2″ nails.
Here is a close up look of the front and back wall frame ends.
Cut the 2×4’s as shown on illustration above for the side walls.
Wall studs are 16″ O.C.
If you will be adding a double door to the side wall of the shed see this page for details: Shed Door Plans
Assemble the side wall frame using 3 1/2″ nails.
See illustration above for truss details.
The truss is built using 2×4’s.
Cut the 2×4’s as shown on illustration above. The truss are assembled using 1/2″ plywood gussets. Nail 2″ nails through the gusset and into the truss.
Attach the truss to the shed 16″ O.C. Toenail 3 1/2″ nails through the truss and into the wall frame.
To build the 1′ overhand cut 2×4’s to 2′ 1 3/4″ long for the outriggers. Notch as shown on illustration above and install the outriggers using 3 1/2″ nails.
Once the outriggers have been installed cut to size the 2×6 roof trim as shown above and install with 3 1/2″ nails.
Install siding using 1 1/4″ finishing nails.
Install doors, and windows.
Cut 2×4’s to size and install between the rafters with 3 1/2″ nails.
Cut t1-11 siding to size and install between the rafters. Use 1 1/4″ finishing nails to install.
Measure, cut, and install the 1/2″ plywood for the roof deck.
Install roofing felt, drip edge, and shingles.
Install 1×4 trim.

I just bought all of the materials here in Missouri. I bought them from the amish lumber yard and spent $1650 for everything.
uggggg we waited until 2022 and paid about $3300 however 3 weeks later wood is going back down again at least for awhile
go back to the store, take your receipt and tell them that you would like a refund in the difference. they will give you the money back. works every time for me. if they don’t honor it then, purchase all the same materials, then return it the next day with the old receipt.
I have used this site before and was very happy with it. But now when I try to access the list of building supplies or cost or any of thr links all I get is ads. Frustrating!!! I understand you need to get something for your trouble, but if you are going to promote something it should not be s frustrating experience. How do we get passed th ads and to the things you list we can access such as th building supply list?

Thank you for this great resource. I’m planning on building this shed here real soon. I have a maybe dumb question, whats the purpose of cutting the wall studs down to 7’6″ vs just using them at 8′?
pretty sure the walls would end up 3 inches too tall for using a 4×8 sheet of siding? top board plus bottom board is 3″ then siding hangs down a couple inch also

question… when you have a measurement of a truss board that has an angled end. lets say a 7 foot board with a 40degree cut where are you measuring from? the end to the longest end ,or the end to the start of the cut? thanks

Maybe if you are building a house……
I did my wall studs and roof rafters at 24″ on center, so I used 2 x 6’s for the roof. Also, I made loft storage in the rafters of the front and back 5′ or so and left the middle 6′ or so open for access to the lofts and better lighting. I left the lower cords out in the middle trusses and reinforced them with hurricane ties and extra blocking. To better support the front and back loft floors I doubled up the lower cords on the front and back truss and on the two on either side of the opening and then floored the lofts with 2/4″ plywood. I also put four 14″ x 14″ plastic skylights in tht roof over the center open area to let additional light in.

I noticed there are no plans for making the doors, openings, or frames. Those should be interchangeable with long side or ends of the bldg.
Also, EXACTLY how do you “Attach the 16′ long 4×4 pressure treated skids to the bottom of the floor frame?”

I am in the proccess of building this shed and im changing the roof to a catherdai ceiling. Im trying to figure out the notching for the trusses. Sizing the birdsmouth i guess is what they call it.
Six sheets of tongue and groove doesn’t make a 12′ wide floor. The tongue is included in the 4’x8′ dimension.

I’m almost done building this.
I modified the 7′ 8 11/16″ top chord cut so that it was parallel with the outside wall. Then I extended the 2x6s all around the building and attached gutters on the sides.
This weekend we are roofing it with Gibraltar Corrugated Galvanized Steel roofing, then finishing the windows next week if the weather holds.

Shouldn’t the 25 3/4” outriggers really be 29 3/4”? If the total length of the roof is to be 18’, with trusses 16”O.C. (16’ plus 2- 1’ overhangs.)? I purchased the plans, think they’re great, currently building the roof…plans leave a lot of the roof assembly details out.

I have a very old ‘garage’ that’s going to collapse sometime this decade and I want to replace it with an outdoor workshop. I say ‘garage’ because its a strange size – 9′ x 15′. Basically built for your spacious Model T. I’m basically assuming I can just skip the parts about making a floor. But any other thoughts would be great.

So I have a question on this 12 by 16 shed is it possible to build the roof 16 feet long ways. So the gable ends would be on the 16 foot sides. Instead of how the photo is where the roof is built in the 12 foot width . I wanted to flip it and build 16 feet long way. I want too match the end of my 16 foot wide mobile home. Were building this plan now with a couple of changes to the roof and doors. for one were using a ridge board held up bu both sides and in the middle also held in place by the rafters. so far and we are using screws we have used 2 boxes of 3″ 5lb screws , 2 boxes of 2.5″5lb and 2 boxes of 2″ 5lb screws. as of now we have 1 12ft siding to go and both gables to put siding on we will still need another 5ln box of 2″ screws for the rest of the siding and roof boards.
Out of the 17 smart siding boards we will have 3 siding boards left over
I like you idea of using the ridge board. I plan to do the same as I will be building this shed alone and stick framing the roof will be easier for me. What is your rafter spacing and are you using 2×4 or 2×6 rafters
would I be able to get a copy of this 12 x 16 shed as well as wind load design if possible. Local building code permit requires a wind load chart thank you

I built this shed in November 2021 with the 2×4”s on the lower chord but went with 24” spacing opposed to 16”. Is there a concern with that or should I have used 2×6’s for the lower chord?

I am planning to build a lean too outhouse (like a shed) which will be attached to the existing building.
Is it possible to email be the plans for lean to shed 4mt by 3 mts (approximately size 10ft by 13ft).
This will have osb board outside and also insulated brick cladding to look same as the outside of the house.

On the ends of the building in these plans, the t1-11 is mounted 2ft piece, 4ft, 4ft, 2ft. Why is one split in half and put to the ends instead of using 3 – 4ft sections without any cuts? Just curious about this.

Why is the upper chord of the roof truss cut to 7′ 8 11/16″ when the 1/2-inch plywood roof decking sheets are 4′ wide? Wouldn’t it make more sense to leave them at 8′ so you don’t have to trim the roof decking?
