The 2022 Beijing Olympics have been one to remember. From figure-skating star Nathan Chen winning his first career gold medal to snowboarding legend Shaun White making his final halfpipe run, these Games' storylines have been endless.

Team USA collected 24 medals overall, its most since winning 25 in Turin 2006. That total included eight gold medals from the likes of Chen and snowboarder Chloe Kim along with nine silvers and seven bronzes.

Alpine ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin entered the Games with sky-high expectations like Chen and Kim. But unlike that pair, the 26-year-old failed to medal in all five of her individual events and was disqualified from three of them. It was a shocking career tumble for an athlete who's earned gold medals in each of the last two Olympics.

Team USA's women's hockey team, the defending Olympic champions, earned silver in Beijing after falling to Canada in the gold-medal game. It was the latest chapter in a rivalry Olympics followers have come to know well, as the U.S. and Canada have met in six of the seven women's hockey finals since the sport was introduced in Nagano 1998.

In curling, the U.S. men's team not only failed to defend its gold medal but also missed the podium for the third time in the last four Games.

Still, Team USA gave fans plenty to celebrate over the past two weeks. Here are each of Team' USA's medalists and some of the best moments from the Beijing Games.

Nathan Chen wins his first career gold medal

These Olympics have been somewhat of a redemption tour for Nathan Chen. The ultra-talented figure skater was expected to medal at the 2018 Games, but uncharacteristic mistakes made him tumble to fifth place in PyeongChang's men's singles event. Chen made no such mistakes this time around. Chen led the U.S. to silver in Beijing's team event and earned his first career gold medal in the men's singles competition. In the short program, Chen put on a dazzling show fans won't forget any time soon.

Erin Jackson becomes the first Black gold medalist in individual speed skating

Erin Jackson's win in the women's 500m speed skating event brought her first Olympic hardware, but its significance stretched far beyond that. The win made Jackson the first Black speed skater to claim an individual gold medal for Team USA. Jackson sped past Japan's Takagi Miho (37.12) and Russia's Angelina Golikova (37.21) for a time of 37.04 in the historic win. If it weren't for teammate and longtime friend Brittany Bowe, however, Jackson wouldn't have even been in the race. Jackson fell during January's U.S. Olympic trials and placed third, and only the top-two finishers automatically qualified for Beijing. Bowe, who finished first, relinquished her spot to Jackson. The story ended positively for both, though, as Bowe claimed bronze in the women's 1000m race.

Chloe Kim adds another gold medal to her flawless résumé

In PyeongChang 2018, then 17-year-old Chloe Kim flashed superstar potential after becoming the youngest woman ever to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal. The 21-year-old confirmed her superstar status in Beijing. Kim earned a second consecutive win in the women's halfpipe event, making her the only woman snowboarder to win two golds in the halfpipe. Kim's sensational first run in the halfpipe final earned her a top score of 94, 3.75 points better than the second-place finisher, Spain's Queralt Castellet. With the legendary Shaun White retiring after these Games, Kim looks to be a worthy successor to his snowboarding throne.

Shaun White finishes his snowboarding career on a high note

Shaun White has competed in five Olympics and won three gold medals over his storied career, but those accomplishments don't begin to encapsulate just how significant he is to the snowboarding world and beyond. The 35-year-old launched his own video-game franchise, has appeared in multiple feature films and is even starting his own clothing line. In Beijing, White demonstrated how he became the sport's biggest icon one last time, as he's retiring after these Games. White (85.00), who at 35 is seven years older than the next oldest men's halfpipe competitor, finished only 2.25 points behind the third-place finisher, Scotty James (87.25) of Australia. It was a marvelous final Olympics for White, who cried after the competition and got a well-deserved ovation from his fellow snowboarders.

Kaillie Humphries triumphs in her first Olympics for the U.S.

Kaillie Humphries came into Beijing with two Olympic gold medals under her belt, but she knew these Games would still be "so special." That's because it was her first Olympics for Team USA, as the 35-year-old represented Canada in the last three Games. Humphries, a Canada native who became a U.S. citizen in December, left Canada's squad after accusing coach Todd Hays of verbal and mental abuse in 2019. In her first appearance for the U.S., she shined. Humphries won gold in the Olympics' first-ever women's monobob event, bringing her career medal total to four.

Lindsey Jacobellis earns her long-awaited gold medal

Like Chen, snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis came into Beijing seeking her first Olympic gold medal after one slipped her grasp years prior. The only difference, however, is Jacobellis' missed opportunity came 12 years before Chen's. Jacobellis had a clear lead in the 2006 snowboard cross event, giving her enough time to celebrate before passing the finish line. But the showboating came with a huge cost. Jacobellis fell while attempting an unnecessary trick, allowing Switzerland's Tanja Frieden to pass her for gold. In the three next Olympics, Jacobellis failed to medal once. That all changed in Beijing. Jacobellis won Team USA's first gold medal of the 2022 Games in the women's snowboard cross, and days later she -- along with  Nick Baumgartner -- won another gold in the team snowboard cross. Jacobellis' strong performance in the team event helped Baumgartner, 40, become the oldest Olympic snowboarding champion ever.

Mikaela Shiffrin fails to finish during slalom leg of Alpine, will leave Beijing without individual medal

United States skier Mikaela Shiffrin came into the slalom portion of the Alpine combined race in fifth place. The 26-year-old star then failed to finish the event after she crashed about 10 gates into her run.

After failing to finish in the top three of that event, Shiffrin will leave the Beijing Olympics without an individual medal.

"Oh, man, I don't know if anybody has failed that hard with so many opportunities maybe in the history of the Olympics," Shiffrin told NBC following the race. "But I'll take it. I mean, it is a joke. That's fine. I just really selfishly wanted to have a good run of slalom down this hill, and I'll be left wanting there."

Shiffrin will have one final chance to earn an Olympic medal on Saturday when she competes in the mixed team parallel slalom competition. In addition, she will become just the second woman in Olympic history to compete in all six Alpine events.

Team USA men's hockey loses to Slovakia in quarterfinals, eliminated from Olympics

The United States men's hockey team suffered a shocking 3-2 shootout loss to Slovakia in the quarterfinals of the Olympics. The Americans went 0-for-5 in the shootout and Slovakia winger Peter Cehlarik recorded the game-winning goal on the team's fourth attempt.

With the loss, Team USA is done at these Olympics and will not medal.

The United States led Slovakia 2-1 with under a minute to go in regulation before Slovakia tied the game. American goaltender Strauss Mann was terrific in net as he recorded 34 saves and stopped four of the five Slovakian attempts in the shootout.

Team USA began the third period with a 2-1 lead after Nick Abruzzese and Sam Hentges had scored earlier in the game. The United States had a chance to get an insurance goal when they had a 5-on-3 power-play in the third period, but failed to cash in on the opportunity.

This marks the third consecutive Olympics in which Team USA has failed to earn a medal. Their last medal came in Vancouver in 2010 when the Americans earned a silver medal.

Shiffrin still without a medal in Beijing

After a much hyped road to the 2022 Winter Olympics, Mikaela Shiffrin is still without a medal after completing four individual events. The most decorated skier in World Cup history's latest miss came in the women's downhill. While not her strongest race, it is an event in which she's won twice and reached five podiums in World Cup competition. She now heads into her final individual event the combined -- which is comprised of one downhill run and two slalom runs, with winner being the skier with the fastest total time over the three runs. The two-day combined even is on Wednesday and Thursday. After her run in the downhill event, Shiffrin spoke with NBC Sports about her optimism heading into the combined event. "I don't feel that anything is guaranteed ... especially after the last couple weeks, but I think I have a shot and that's really nice, so I'll go for it and we'll see."

Team USA women's hockey advances to gold medal game

The United States women's hockey team recorded a 4-1 win over Finland in Monday's semifinal matchup. The Americans receive a pair of second period goals from Cayla Barnes and Hilary Knight to cruise to the stress-free victory.

Barnes' goal came at the 3:39 mark of the second period and came via the power-play. Teammate Hilary Knight found a wide-open Barnes in front and Barnes buried a shot past Finnish goaltender Anni Keisala. Knight also scored later in the period and registered her 26th point of her Olympic career. Knight's 26th point moved her into sole possession of the No. 2 spot on the top American Olympic scorers list behind only Jenny Potter.

The United States will face Canada in the gold medal, which is scheduled for Wednesday night. It marks the sixth time in the last seven Olympics that the United States and Canada will meet in the gold medal game.

Team USA tops podium in women's monobob

In the first Winter Olympics to feature the women's monobob Team USA finished wearing both gold and silver. Kallie Humphries, with a time of 4:19.27 took home the gold and American teammate Elana Meyers Taylor (4:20.81) won the sliver medal. Canada's Christine de Bruin won the bronze medal with a third-place time of 4:21.03. Humphries is no stranger to the Winter Olympics podium -- she is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the two-woman bobsled with Canada. She became a naturalized U.S. Citizen and now competes for Team USA following harassment allegations she made against Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton, and the ensuing legal battle.

Jackson makes history with gold medal performance

Erin Jackson became the first Black woman to win a speedskating Olympic gold medal with a victory in the women's 500m on Sunday. The world's No. 1 skater at that distance posted a time of 37.04, besting the time of 37.12 set by Japan's Miho Takagi, who took home silver. Jackson's historic performance was almost not to be -- she fell during the U.S. Olympic trials and did not qualify for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. She got a spot on Team USA when teammate Brittany Bowe gave up her place on the 2022 team. After the win Jackson told the New York Times she hopes the historic victory has an effect. "Hopefully we can see, you know, more minorities, especially in the USA., getting out and trying some of these winter sports. And I just always hope to be a good example."

Jacobellis, Baumgartner take gold in mixed snowboardcross

In the very first mixed snowboard cross final at the Winter Olympics Team USA is on top of the mountain. In the win, Lindsey Jacobellis picked up her second gold medal of the 2022 Games, after winning the mixed gender event with Nick Baumgartner. When she won the women's snowboardcross event, it was the first gold for Team USA in this year's Games and she also set a record as the oldest snowboarder to medal at the Olympics, at 36 years of age. That record was broken with this medal, as the 40-year-old Baumgartner took that record, just days later. Unsurprisingly, the Jacobellis-Baumgartner team -- at a combined age of 76 -- were the oldest team in the field.

USA women's hockey team beats Czech Republic in quarterfinals

The United States women's hockey team has clinched their spot in the semifinals following a 4-1 win over the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.

While the final score doesn't indicate a close contest, the United States and the Czech Republic were tied heading into the third period. The two teams exchanged goals in the second period with Hilary Knight scoring for the Americans and Michaela Pejzlova finding the back of the net for the Czechs.

At the 6:49 mark of the third period, though, United States defender Lee Stecklein scored what ended up being the game-winning goal when her shot went off of a Czech Republic player's stick and into the net.

"It's for our lives here," Stecklein said. "So not much really needs to be said, actually, because everyone feels that. We want that next game as much as the Czechs."

The Americans also received goals from Savannah Harmon on the power-play and Kendall Coyne Schofield in the final seconds. Now the United States will face an undetermined opponent on Monday in the semifinals.

Shiffrin misses out on medal, but finishes race for the first time in Beijing

Mikaela Shiffrin can't seem to reclaim her old form in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The American alpine ski racer failed to medal in Thursday night's super-G, making her 0-3 in individual events in Beijing. This was Shiffrin's first attempt at the super-G at the Olympic level, but she won a world championship in the event in 2019. She finished with a time of 1:14.30, well off the podium in Beijing.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist rode a major slump into the super-G, as she fell seconds into the women's slalom and women's giant slalom events earlier this week. Shiffrin came into Beijing having won gold in each of the latter two events over her storied career, the slalom in Sochi 2014 and giant slalom in Pyeongchang 2018. Shiffrin hoped to become the first American alpine ski racer to win three Olympic golds in one Games. Her 0-3 start, however, made that impossible as she has only two events remaining in Beijing.

Shaun White fails to medal in final Olympic event

Shaun White's illustrious snowboarding career is over. The American failed to medal in Friday's men's halfpipe final after falling in his third and final run. Japan's Ayumu Hirano, Australia's Scotty James and Switzerland's Jan Scherrer won gold, silver and bronze, respectively.

A strong second-run score of 85 saw White move into second place, then only 2.25 points behind Switzerland's Jan Scherrer. But James and Hirano's posted second-run scores of 92.50 and 91.75, passing them both. White scored a 72 in his first run.

After White's final run, his fellow snowboarders gave him a legend's goodbye.

The three-time gold medalist White hoped to become the second Winter Olympian to win gold in four different Games. This was White's last chance to do so, as he's retiring from competitive snowboarding after Beijing

White reached the final after an uneven performance in Wednesday's qualifiers. The five-time Olympian fell during his first qualifying run, but he managed to advance after scoring an 86.25 in run No. 2. His second-run score ranked behind only Hirano, James and Japan's Ruka Hirano.

At 35, White was seven years older than the next-oldest snowboarder in the men's halfpipe final: 28-year-old American Taylor Gold. White's consistency and longevity are why many consider him to be the greatest snowboarder of all time.

Nathan Chen becomes seventh American man to win figure skating gold

Chen made Olympics history on Wednesday night. The American won gold in the men's figure skating event, becoming the first American men's skater to win gold since Evan Lysacek in 2010 and the seventh all time.

The 22-year-old star finished first and ahead of Japan's Yuma Kagiyama and Shoma Unowho took home silver and bronze, respectively. Chen had a total score of 332.60 compared to Kagiyama's 310.05 and Uno's 293. | Read more

Chloe Kim wins second consecutive gold medal in women's halfpipe

American snowboarder Chloe Kim needed only one run to win gold in the women's halfpipe. The 21-year-old star began Wednesday's final with a first run score of 94.00, the best mark of the night by over three points. She fell during her second and third runs, but her first was impressive enough to hold on and win gold.

Spain's Queralt Castellet had the second-best run of the night, but her 90.25 still couldn't match Kim. Castellet and Japan's Sena Tomita (88.25) won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Kim is now the first American women's snowboarder to win back-to-back Olympic golds in the women's halfpipe. Her most recent gold was Team USA's second of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

The California native was similarly impressive in Tuesday's qualifiers. In her very first qualifying run, Kim posted the best score of the day, an 87.75. That score was four points better than the second-best run of the night, an 83.75 from Japan's Mitsuki Ono.

A rising snowboarding star, Kim has won two World Championships and two gold medals in the halfpipe at only 21. In Pyeongchang 2018, Kim, then 17, became the youngest woman snowboarder ever to win an Olympic gold medal.

Shaun White falls, but has clutch second run to qualify for halfpipe final

Shaun White, the most notable American athlete at the Winter Games in Beijing, avoided disaster on Tuesday night. In the first round of qualifying, he fell while trying to land signature move, the Tomahawk. It put white, 35, in a tough spot. He would have to nail his second run in order to make the finals of the event -- an event he has won gold in three times.

The snowboarding legend did just that. He crushed his second run, which included successfully landing the Tomahawk. After the first run, White was in 19th place, He ended up finishing in fourth.

White will compete next, for what he said will be the final time in his prestigious Olympics career, on Thursday in the halfpipe final.

Chloe Kim advances to women's halfpipe finals

American snowboarder Chloe Kim is inching closer to her second consecutive gold medal in the women's halfpipe. The 21-year-old Californian dominated Tuesday's qualifiers, posting the best score (87.75) among the 22-person field in her first run. Kim's score was exactly four points better than the second-best run of the day, an 83.75 second-run effort from Japan's Mistuki Ono.

Kim will be the only American vying for the women's halfpipe podium on Wednesday. Maddie Mastro fell one spot short of qualification, as her first-run score of 65.75 was only .50 points behind the best run from Germany's Leilani Ette, who finished 12th. Fellow Americans Tessa Maud and Zoe Kalops didn't advance either.

The women's halfpipe final is set for 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Canada tops Team USA in women's hockey preliminary round game

Canada defeated the United States, 4-2, and earned the top seed in the Winter Olympics women's hockey tournament in the process last night.

Despite falling behind 1-0, the United States battled back and even took a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Dani Cameranesi and Alex Carpenter. Carpenter's tally came on the power-play.

However, Canada rallied to score three unanswered goals in the second period and didn't look back. Brianne Jenner, Jamie Lee Rattray and Marie-Philip Poulin found the back of the net for Team Canada.

The United States finished in second place in Group A with a 3-1 mark during the preliminary round, which was only used to determine seeding. The entire group automatically qualified for the medal round, which begins on Friday.

Nathan Chen sets men's figure skating world record with 113.97 points in short program

A favorite to win gold in men's single skating entering these Games, American Nathan Chen got off on the right foot Monday night. Chen dominated in the short program, receiving a score of 113.97 -- a higher mark than anyone has ever received in the history of figure skating. His record-setting routine included a triple axel and two quadruple jumps.

"I was elated," Chen said in an interview with NBC during the live broadcast of the event. "Last Olympics, both short programs didn't go the way I wanted and to finally get the opportunity to skate the programs the way that I wanted -- it feels really great. It means a lot."

As Chen noted, his performance on Monday went much better than his last short program run at the 2018 Winter Olympics. At those Games, Chen, who was also a favorite for gold then, uncharacteristically fell multiple times and, even after a phenomenal comeback in the free skate portion, did not medal.

Entering Thursday's free skate, Chen is ahead of Japanese skaters Yuma Kagiyama and Shoma Uno, who are in second and third place, respectively. Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan, who is seeking his third consecutive gold medal in the event, sits in eighth place.

Figure skater Vincent Zhou withdraws from Games after testing positive for COVID-19

United States figure skater Vincent Zhou withdrew from the Winger Olympics on Monday after testing positive for COVID-19. He announced his withdrawal from the men's single competition in a video post on Instagram:

"I have tested positive for COVID-19 and unfortunately I will have to withdraw from the individual event starting tomorrow," he said. "It seems pretty unreal that of all the people it would happen to myself, and that's not just because I'm still processing this turn of events but also because I have been doing everything in my power to stay free of COVID since the start of the pandemic.

"I've taken all the precautions I can. I've isolated myself so much that the loneliness I felt in the last month or two has been crushing at times."

In the video, Zhou thanked his teammates and expressed regret that he will not be able to continue with them. Despite not being able to compete in the event scheduled to begin on Tuesday, he noted that this is all just a set up for a bigger comeback.

Mikaela Shiffrin crashes out in giant slalom, misses final

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin fell short in her first chance to pick up more gold in Beijing after crashing out of her first run in the giant slalom. Shiffrin fell coming around an early turn causing her to miss a gate. In crashing out, the three-time Olympian missed out on defending her giant slalom gold from 2018 in Pyeongchang. She's also a two-time silver medalist and has one bronze medal in the giant slalom in the world championships. The result is extremely unexpected, even if she wasn't headed for the podium -- Shiffrin hadn't crashed out of a giant slalom race since January of 2018, a span of 30 races. She will have more chances at an Olympic podium in Beijing with a run in the women's Super-G on Thursday night February 10.

After the race, Shiffrin spoke to NBC about how she's processing missing out of the final in one of her best events and also looking forward to the rest of her Olympic schedule in Beijing.

"Going to reset...focus on what I can control for the slalom. There's still [a] long two weeks to go and I'm still looking forward to it," Shiffrin said. "And I just....I'm sorry that was the performance I did today."

Bobsled star cleared to compete

Three-time medalist Elana Meyers Taylor was in danger of not being able to compete in bobsled after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. The positive test forced her to miss the Opening Ceremony, where she was chosen to be the flag bearer for Team USA. After spending days in quarantine, she was thrilled to receive clearance to compete Saturday morning as Meyers Taylor achieved consecutive negative COVID-19 results, ensuring she can lead the Americans in the Winter Games. The No. 1-ranked woman in two-man and monobob, Meyers Taylor will begin competition on Feb. 13. She is seeking her first Gold Medal after winning two Silver and a Bronze in her career. Meyers Taylor is so focused on winning, she even trained in her room while under quarantine.

Women's hockey off to hot but hobbled start

Team USA improved to 2-0 Saturday morning after earning a dominant 5-0 win over the Russian Olympic Committee. Forward Hilary Knight, one of the top players in U.S. Olympic history, moved past Cammi Granato into fourth all-time for the Americans with 20 career points after scoring a goal and notching an assist in the game. The United States has now out-shot its opponents 114-24 to start the Olympics after downing Finland 5-2 in its first preliminary on Thursday. The U.S. will be playing the rest of the Olympics without star Brianna Decker, who suffered a leg injury in that Finland matchup and has been ruled out for the remainder of the event.
