Will Trent, the popular ABC crime series based on the 11 novels by Karin Slaughter, is back in action for a second season with Ramón Rodriguez returning suited up as the GBI Special Agent with a unique talent for reading crime scenes. Not only is he good police, but despite his quirkiness, he’s objectively hot!

The second season of Will Trent premieres on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Who’s in the Will Trent cast for season 2?

Ramón Rodriguez as Will Trent

Will, whose trademark is 3-piece suits, is assigned some of the GBI’s most difficult cases because he can read a crime scene like no one else, a skill he has learned to help cope with his dyslexia after being abandoned at birth and raised in the harshness of Atlanta’s foster care system.

Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski

Angie, too, was raised in the foster care system with Will and like him, she is in law enforcement, but she’s a member of the Atlanta Police Department.

Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell

Faith began as a member of the Atlanta Police Department in season 1, but in the pilot, she was partnered with Will on a very difficult case, and as a result, her godmother Amanda Wagner, had her permanently transferred to the GBI.

Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner

Amanda is Will’s boss at the GBI and, as we learned at the end of season 1, the police officer who saved his life when he was discarded as a baby.

Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood

Michael Ormewood is a veteran detective and Angie's partner on the APD.

Betty

Betty is the Chihuahua that Will adopted in the pilot episode because he couldn't abandon her as he had been abandoned as a baby.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar returns as Paul Campano, a wealthy car dealer who was in foster care with Will and Angie and was reunited in the pilot episode when his teenage daughter was kidnapped and Will and Angie were on the case.

LisaGay Hamilton as Evelyn Mitchell

LisaGay Hamilton returns as Evelyn Mitchell, mother of Faith Mitchell, and a former Atlanta Police Department captain, who was forced to retire due to an investigation led by Will.

Cora Lu Tran as Nico

Cora Lu Tran is back as Nico, Betty’s dogwalker who lives in Will’s garage.

Will there be a season 3 of Will Trent?

Yes! Only five episodes into Season 2, Will Trent was picked up by ABC for a third season, which will air on ABC‘s 2024-25 primetime lineup.

What happened in the Will Trent season 1 finale?

Since Will Trent is an episodic, the cases aren’t as important as the characters we check in with each week, and the season 1 finale had a doozy of shocker for Will. It turned out that his boss, GBI deputy director Amanda Wagner knew Will’s mother, Lucy Morales, who died giving birth to him.

It was Amanda who rescued Will after serial killer James Ulster (Greg Germann) discarded him. Amanda had hoped to adopt Will but as a single woman in her era, it wasn’t possible. But she still left her mark on him by giving him her mother’s maiden name, Trent.

Also, Angie was kidnapped by Ulster, who is still preying on women all these years later, and she may possibly be paralyzed after being beaten by the serial killer.

Where is Will Trent filmed?

Will Trent is set and filmed in Atlanta.

“It's pretty great when you get to shoot where something takes place and so Atlanta very much, especially in the pilot, we really establish it as a character," Rodriquez said during a press conference for the series premiere. "The heat of Atlanta, the warmth, the look of the show, the tones of this show really represent this city. In this season, we get to go to places that are out of the city as well, which is really great. Some of our stories are inspired by some of what's happened here in Atlanta and Georgia in general. So, we go to some locations outside the city, a bit more rural, where there's some real history, and we get to explore some of that in our stories.”
