Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This Roman Catholic Gothic church was built in the heart of the old city. The cathedral is very well-conserved and shows many ancient masterpieces. His location is fairly easy to find because its impressive 95-meter tower and spire dominate the city skyline. In its internal, there is a magnificent pipe organ and a composition of the Jesus Christ crucifixion. It surely deserves a visit, especially during the summer, its freshness will surprise you.

I was only in Frankfurt to catch a plane, but looked for something to do the day before. This turned out to be an interesting visit. Admittedly, I am not well-versed about Goethe, but know the basics. Honestly, if this had been Hans the baker's preserved house it would have been just as cool to visit. The architecture was comely, the furnishings were alternately elegant and over the top. There is a lovely garden with an immense fig tree. The still-green figs were as big as my fist! I'd have loved to have gotten a ripe one.

Upstairs is a whole art museum. I didn't even see the entire thing. The staircase to access it reminded me of a Fritz Lang movie. If you go, you'll see what I mean.

It was certainly worth the visit.

We had a very nice lunch at the Hauptwache restaurant during the Christmas market. This place is so iconic they could scrimp on the food, but they don’t. The schnitzel, soup and sausages were great, and the service was attentive. Unfortunately, the interior of this building lacks the character of the exterior. In the summer it would be better to sit outside.

This church was built on the site of the old Staufen chapel in 1290, For a long time it was in the shadow of the cathedral as a daughter church of the monastery of St. Bartholomew, but gradually its importance for Frankfurters grew in parallel with the growing importance of Roemerberg in relation to the Cathedral Square. The construction of new altars and the reconstruction of the church was already at the expense of the citizens of the city and the city council. All this stopped with the Reformation, in which Frankfurt sided with the Protestants. In 1530, Catholic Mass and church services in Frankfurt were abolished. The Church of St. St. Nicholas was closed, the altars were demolished in 1543. After the Peace of Augsburg in 1548, the cathedral was returned to Catholics, and the Nikolaikirche remained closed for services and was used as an archive, warehouse and God knows what else... After more than a century and a half, the Nikolaikirche was re-consecrated in 1721 after restoration as an evangelical one. Actually, this can be seen from the modest interior. The church looks about the same as in the XVI century. Surprisingly, the terrible British bombing of 1943-44, which turned almost the whole of Frankfurt into ruins in general and the Old City in particular, did not affect the church much. Only the roof burned down, which is not much in terms of the scale of destruction of other buildings. So the church is the little that remains of the real old Roemerberg.

I had never intended to visit church. But the church is just across Romerberg so it was convenient. There is nothing much to see inside as it just tells you how the church was reconstructed.

This is not a must do but given it’s convenient location, you can consider popping by when you are at Romerberg.

This structure looks like a single turret that has somehow broken away from it's castle. It sits in a small square and rises in between two cafes. It's very elegant to look at with a sandstone base and wooden features to it's peak, including small windows and a lovely steeple.

Rathaus Seckbach is an amazing place to spend some time while in Frankfurt, however please note that there won’t be peace at all. It’s an eclectic mix of locals and tourists who throng the area to admire the old town charm with amazing local food and drinks. In short is a fun place to visit.

There are plenty of nice little cafe all around where you can enjoy local delicacies. Plenty of gift shops and souvenirs shops as well.

This is a fabulous little square and was my favourite 'unexpected' sight. There isn't a lot there apart from a small fountain in the middle of the square that wasn't even working, but the buildings around the square are all different colours and styles with great originality and make superb photos shots.

Haus Wertheym is the only timbered house in the Altstadt district that survived the heavy bombings of World War II undamaged. It is located on the Römerberg next to the Historical Museum. Our tour guide told us that it survived because it was kept watered down by a bucket brigade during the bombing and fires in WWII so that that the residents of the city could exit through it to the river and escape the fire.

Next to the icon museum,so easy to find otherwise you might miss this place of calm. Worth taking 15 minutes break from busy rush around city, provides a good reset to life. Some interesting elements to the building.

This castle has old and new segments to it with the older being more historical and better for photos. It's set on the riverbank and has a wonderful high steeple and quaint drawbridge leading to it's front which is an elegant piece of architecture with it's white walls, brown windows, and black slate roof. Take the steps down underneath the drawbridge and you can walk around the garden and also see it's lovely arched brickwork

This is a historical house which was rebuilt after WWII. It is located beside the Frankfurt Cathedral.

Currently, it is an art gallery and museum.
