Miley Cyrus Wins Her First-Ever Grammy Award
Miley Cyrus is a first-time Grammy Award winner. She took home Best Pop Solo Performance for “Flowers.”
Cyrus was presented the award from another “MC”: Mariah Carey. Cyrus took a minute to fangirl over the presenter and recall an experience she had at Carey’s concert at Hollywood Bowl, where the “Flowers” singer sat in her “lucky number three” seat at the show. Cyrus proceeded to tell a story about a little boy who wanted to catch a butterfly with a net and kept “swinging and swinging” with no luck. Finally, the boy sat down and surrendered.
“Right when he did is when the butterfly came and landed right on the tip of his nose,” she said. “This song ‘Flowers’ is my butterfly.”
Cyrus has been nominated for eight Grammys throughout her career. Her first nomination was in 2015 for Bangerz. She is up for six awards tonight, including Album of the Year for Endless Summer Vacation and Song and Record of the Year for “Flowers.” Her duet with Brandi Carlile on the song “Thousand Miles” was also up for Best Pop/Duo Group Performance. Cyrus will also be performing later in the show.
