Guy I’m Seeing Asked Me To Wear ‘Minimum Makeup’

Backstory: I’ve been seeing this guy for a few months. I like him a lot, but last night we were talking about an upcoming date and he asked that I wear minimum makeup this time. I was quite taken aback because I already wear quite light makeup (concealer, eyeliner, mascara, blush, lipstick). He said I look beautiful but he ‘prefers’ my natural beauty. I’m not flattered by this and it feels a little offensive and controlling, actually. Is this a red flag or am I reading into this?

You said you’ve been “seeing him”. I take it he’s not your boyfriend. A man does not tell you what to put on your face, especially one who has proposed no commitment to you.

He’s trying to see if he can control you and mould you to his preference. Or worse if you’re “really” pretty.

His preferences don’t matter. Either he likes how you present to him and your character or he doesn’t. He can stop wasting your time if he doesn’t.

Drop him.

Well he should go for someone with that look in the first place. My makeup is very light and fresh. Even on special occasions I don’t wear ‘heavy’ makeup, simply because I don’t suit it. If I wore much less makeup I’d be wearing none at all. If it’s such a huge preference he should only approach people who meet that preference

Ask him to get rid of his facial hair because you prefer clean shaven men. IF he is clean shaven ask him to grow out his beard/mustache. See how he reacts.
