This is the 3td 30th Anniversary box set to be issued by David Coverdale, ( 1ts Slide it in, 2ad 1987, ) Celebrating the success of Whitesnake in the late 80s and early 90s.
The band line-up this time includes: the Dutch legendary guitarist Adrian Vandenberg (co-writer) and Mr passion and warfare, the 7-stringed guitar wizard Steve Vai on Lead guitarists, Rudy sarzo on Bass, and one of the worlds best rock drummers Tommy Aldridge. (who has been with the band on and off to this day)
The box set has 6 CD x 1 DVD with a remaster Donington park 1990 set on it too. + 2 books and a poster so is good value for money.
It has some of the best rock tracks that ever came out of Whitesnake and have been remaster for this box set.
All in all a good buy and a must if you have the first two 30th box sets.

Enjoyed the Remaster of the Album sounds really good bright and punchy,the other discs are a bit hit and miss tbh.The Donnington 1990 DVD is awfull the picture and sound quality you would get better on a mobile phone.Their seems to be no more than two cameras filming the show,do not buy it for the DVD! I don't know if its worth £50 I like the poster and the quite good book and main disc the rest not so much.I suppose it depends how much you like Whitesnake.Iknow when I went to see them live I could not stand it when we had a really boring drum solo by Tommy Aldridge and David Coverdale kept saying "Here's one for you."

I never liked this 1st time around,& sorry to say, I still don't.I've really tried to be fair & objective,I'm a huge Cov fan & loved Vai with Roth.
Apart from Judgement Day & Sailing Ships, the rest of the stuff is abysmal.It doesn't have the energy or the tempo,or the "wow,holy-shit,this is amazing"feeling, of its predecessor,& frankly this could be one of a million similar-sounding records of that era.There is a sameness to some tracks,shouty unmemorable choruses too.So that smacks of the material either not being ready, or strong enough,complacency even ,as does the unlistenable new version of "Fool for your Loving"(Did Coverdale want more publishing royalties for herself, or did she just think,the other songs weren't up to being the lead off single?).All of this is very, very slick & deliberate,all aimed intentionally for MTV,& American radio,& to further please North American fans,& get their money off them.
At the time,Coverdale was at pains to tell us this was absolutely his ideal version of Whitesnake,great band harmony,no egos,no hissy divas etc,etc.However,when Steve Vai joined,he TOLD Coverdale he had to be the main guitarist.So officially, Adje Vandenberg was injured,& couldn't play,on SOT,despite him co-writing all the songs.Hmm.Vandenburg is in all the videos,& played every gig on the subsequent tour.He would later call Vai, on film, "Mussolini",& Coverdale would concede that there was unrest among the band members, around Vai's position in the group.
Steve Vai is all over this.Too much so really,but in fairness, to probably try & liven this crap up.Theres no disputing his incredible ability,but he should have been reigned in.Less would definitely be more.Millions of multi-layered double tracked guitars,insane two handed tapping, & whammy bar excesses,to the fore on his 7 string Ibanez via the Eventide Harmonizer,or something.All that said,Vai has no writing credits here,so.......for all his efforts,the majority of the songs are just not good enough,some of which, the band never played live,or simply couldn't play them possibly due to all the guitar arrangements,that may not have possible to recreate in concert...
..Maybe the Vai factor,added to the complacency in the songwriting, thinking he alone could raise this drivel,to a higher level.Alas the great songs are not here for him to work with.....
SOT sold quite well,to mixed reviews,but nowhere near the numbers of the album before.
This was the 1st death knell for Whitesnake.Following on from a badly attended American tour, & poorly received World tour,(a much panned appearance at Castle Donington,where Thunder stole the show)Cov put the Snake on ice.When he did return with Whitesnake,future line-ups,were basically backing bands,with faceless,albeit very talented musicians,(most likely salaried,as required),no really,really big named signings,and pretty much solo endeavours,under the Whitesnake banner.Whitesnake would no longer be a group/band,in the true sense.Certainly not a democratic one.Lord knows how many different musicians have come & gone,since SOT was originally released.To this day, only Judgement Day,& The Deeper the love will feature in the live set,as FFYL is really an old song.
Over 50,(FIFTY)wing-wangs,for this uber mega disc version,the extras offer very,very little to this fan,so think before you part with your hard earned cash.Remasters,remixes,the videos for the singles,Donington 1990 concert set again,interview stuff,demos,rough mix's galore.But......very,very unsatisfactory, spreading the whole thing,very,very thinly in my opinion.
