It makes me happy and proud to be Latin American and shows to our community that we can do anything and be whoever we want to be.

Student Blog: My First Director's Note
by Student Blogger: Blake Velick - November 29, 2021

After our first run, filled with laughs and screams, I finally saw my vision fit with my co-director's vision. When our hand-painted set was constructed on the first day of tech week and cue-to-cue began, I got chills and knew my work as a director was practically done. I could finally enjoy the show and see everything come together. Before our final run, I sat in the theatre and channelled my thoughts and feelings into my first director's note. All audience members had the opportunity to read this director's note from our digital program. Imagine you are in the Class of '49 Auditorium at the University of Pennsylvania. Hill House looms in front of you, and you begin reading the digital program where you stumble upon my director's note.

I don't know how this would've happened, but I always thought I'd somehow meet Stephen Sondheim to thank him for the music he brought into my life. The beauty he created and the inspiration it instilled in me. I wanted to tell him his lyrics and stories are why I write, why I direct, and why I act. Instead, I write this and hope he can see it from wherever he is.

Student Blog: New Work is the Best Work
by Student Blogger: Grace Cutler - November 29, 2021

This month I performed in the premiere of a play written as an adaptation of a movie. This experience reminded me how much I enjoy working on new work as an actor, and the opportunities it creates. I realized that a great deal of my time in college as well as growing up has been centered around new work, from originating roles to writing material, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every process. The journey with a new play or story is unlike any other time, and I really cherish the ability I have to participate in such exciting and monumental moments.

BWW Previews: WHO'S HOLIDAY! at Human Race Theatre
by Irene Imboden - November 29, 2021

If playwright Matthew Lombardo's searing look at actress Tallulah Bankhead in Looped was the main course, then his spicy confection about Cindy Lou Who in Who's Holiday! - playing this December at The Human Race - is the decadent dessert we have been waiting for. Called a 'raunchy riff on Dr. Seuss,' Who's Holiday! is a wildly funny and heartfelt adult-only comedy about grown-up Cindy Lou Who, as she recalls that Christmas Eve when she first met the Grinch and the twisted turn of events her life has since taken. Who's Holiday! will fill the Loft Theatre with laughter, December 2 - 19, 2021.
