The station is huge and very busy. Police everywhere dealing with situations. Once you step outside the station there seems to be a lot of work going on, with high fencing erected, so while you walked by you are not visible from the street. Many unsavoury characters hanging around there which made me feel unsafe, and this is in daylight. Once we made it to the street the stench of urine was overpowering, beggars, drunks, passed out druggies, rubbish strewn every where, one guy rooting in a skip. It was truly shocking and I will never be found there again. How can the residents of Frankfurt stand for this, have you no pride in your City? it is truly disgusting and what a terrible first impression when arriving into the city by bus or train. The area around the bus station which is close by, but badly signposted is just as bad, couldn't wait to get out of there. Never again!!

Although Frankfurt Main station is only the second largest passenger station in Germany after Hamburg (almost half a million per day), due to its central location, it is more important than its counterpart. From here you can go not only to all the main cities of Germany, but also get direct trains to distant stations of neighboring countries - Italian Milan, Swiss Bern nd Basel, Austrian Linz and Klagenfurt, French paris, Bordeaux or Marseille. The station has 25 platforms, all except 1a exit directly from the station building. Frankfurt train station is a dead end. Since it has reached the limit of passenger traffic growth, there has been a discussion for many decades about how to make it transit, but things are not moving. There is a commuter train station under the station building ( S-Bahn: S1-6, 8,9/ The last two to the airport) and the metro station (U4 and U5). Here they are just in transit, because they are brought underground. There is a tram and bus stop near the station. 11, 12, 14, 16, 17 and 20 routes and night buses n8 and n83. Luggage storage is right on the platform. Vending machines for drinks and snacks are also on the platform. However, it is better to drink coffee with a croissant at Starbucks, Le Crobag or Coffee Fellows. Fast food lovers will find the main vendors - McDonald's, Burger King, Dunkin' Donuts. You can make do with German sausages in Wursthelden & Kebabhelden (this is our favorite choice at German train stations). Asian food lovers can stay at Indian Curry House, THAI WOK, Asia gourmet. The station building itself is built in the neoclassical style. The central facade is decorated with a 6-meter bronze sculpture group by the Brunswick sculptor Gustav Herold and a clock with allegories of day and night. All this has been under construction for more than one year and is constantly being repaired, so whenever you arrive at Frankfurt Main Station, something will always be built or repaired: underground, on the roof, in the station itself or next to it. The station itself is the champion of Germany in terms of the number of crimes. But outwardly, everything is calm. Probably, the bulk of these are still thefts. But the area around the station does not even outwardly inspire optimism. Nearby is the local red light district with prostitutes. And to see the drug dealers, you don't even have to move away from the train station. There are a lot of sellers and consumers around...

Construction in and around the station makes it a bit more difficult to use than is normally the case, but the directions within the station are clear and the platforms readily accessible. There are lots of cafes, restaurants and other amenities.

Do not stay near here on weekends if you want to sleep. We stayed a Friday night and a Saturday night and both nights had a street party start at 9p and go until 6a. Constant yelling from crowds of people partying to techno music so loud our earplugs couldn't drown it out.

As a tourist, my wife and I took a cab from the station from the taxi rank and showed the driver the address of the hotel we want to get to.

He spoke to a couple of other drivers and it seems that he was told it was only about 15 minutes away.

What should have been a 15-minute drive, became a 45-minute journey, with some arguments with the driver about the route he was taking. I had my Sat Nav running and it was clear he was taking us further and further away from the hotel while the meter was ticking away. When he got to €45 on the meter, he said he would stop the meter, and we pay him that amount. We agreed to it because my wife is in distress and scared of what might come next if we would have said 'no'. This should only cost you €20 max.

After the agreement, he set his Sat Nav and drove on the motorway at 150-185 km/h.

It was an experience I would not want to happen again in my entire life or to anyone else. Lesson learned.

My advice; Book your taxis with a reputable company before your journey, and whenever possible, avoid getting on those taxis outside the station.

Big station with connections throughout Germany and Europe. Information boards are clear and announcements are in English as well as German. Also connections to the S bahn and U bahn. Lots of places to get food. A fair number of benches.

Probably the best way to get around Germany. The trains always run on time and there are plenty of people to ask help from. Great food and great shopping is also a plus

This is a large, and efficient train station, with multiple options to travel all over Germany. The prices have gone up significantly to travel by train from the past, but it still continues to be the best way for local travel. There are many food options as well as many services including car rentals right there at the station. It is really a modern and well equipped hub to travel throughout Germany.

This station is laden with all sorts of shady characters. Pickpockets, drug dealers, drug addicts, aggressive beggars, homeless people who urinate everywhere just outside the station. I am staying in the intercity hotel which is just opposite the station. On my first night, I already saw people dealing in drugs from my room. The Vicki around the station is depressing,
