[FILMING LOCATION] Memories of Alhambra

Hi there, I’m really addicted to this drama right now (much more than Encounter).

The storyline is so thrilling and sometimes I do get scared when I watch it late at night. I’m really crossing my fingers that everything makes sense in the end and I’m really glad they did all that overseas filming. It really makes me miss the European architecture and I’m really wondering when I will get a chance to visit Spain again – and I’ll have to visit the Spain film spots for Legends of the Blue Sea as well!

Similar to all my other drama posts, I will be needing some time to do the screengrabs from the drama + finding the address and should I stop halfway, it simply means that I’m too busy (it’s just the start of the year >_<) or I gave up watching the drama cause it went downhill. This KoreanDramaLand had been really efficient in sourcing for the locations so do head over to their website if you can’t find the information here.

Here’s a list of locations that I’ve managed to dig across the internet:

Seoul, South Korea

  • Yeouido (ELAND Cruise Terminal) @ Han River (1st Kiss in the Rain)
  • Yeoido Park
  • Gwanghwamun Square

Incheon, South Korea

  • Incheon Grand Park – where Cha Hyung Seok was killed (nope, it was not in filmed in Europe)
  • Giordano Concept Store (the fitting room scene)

Cheongju, South Korea

  • Sacheon-dong Catholic Church [천주교 사천동 성당] – Final church in the last few episodes

Anseong, South Korea

  • Mirinae Church – Cha Hyung Seok’s funeral church (same location as Goblin)

Episode 1

Barcelona França railway station[Estación de Francia]

Address: Av. del Marquès de l’Argentera, s/n, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

Gavà Railway Station [Estació de Gavà]

Address: 08850 Gavà, Barcelona, Spain

In the drama, this station was known as Granada but in reality, Granada Station looks like that:

Image result for granada station

The film spot for the so called ‘Granada Station’ is situated somewhat along the outskirts of Barcelona. To be honest, prior to watching this drama, I’ve not heard of ‘Granada’ before, neither have I heard of Alhambra. The only two places I’ve visited in Spain is Barcelona and Madrid. No idea how and why the scriptwriters decide upon this city. I’m pretty sure screen tourism will result in an influx of tourists to Spain and the featured cities. Let’s see if the traction will be greater than my writeup of Legend of the Blue Seas..

Hostel Bonita = Restaurant la Penyora in Barri Vell, Girona

Address: Carrer Nou del Teatre, 3, 17004 Girona, Spain

I have no idea how she (KoreanDramaLand) managed to find this location. It’s such a random restaurant along the streets.

Recalling the days where I searched almost every single street on Google Maps to look for that door in Quebec for the Goblin drama. It was pretty epic as I legitly used Google Street View and click on my mouse for a few hours before finding it. #memories

Taberna = La Terra (Shop where he retrieved his first sword)

Address: Carrer de les Ballesteries, 23, 17004 Girona, Spain

Note: No one knows if the interior of the toilet is legit. Until the day one of my readers visit and let me know. I can’t enter the guy’s toilet anyway.. heh.

Contribution from reader shanluvtravel: The toilet in this little cafe is just single cubicles toilet. (1 Door = 1 user only). Not a big communal toilet.

Thanks for your help!

Episode 12

ELAND Cruise Terminal @ Yeouido

Address: 290 Yeouidong-ro, Yeoeuido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea

This cruise terminal (and cruise) has been featured in quite a number of dramas.. possibly a product placement stunt? Nevertheless, it seems like a pretty place (especially with all those christmas lights in christmas) and i guess a cruise down Han River should be a must-do when you’re in Seoul! Yes, this was the cruise featured in ‘my love from the star’ the doo min joon drama feat. jeon jihyun (my fav actress) + kim soo hyun.

Book the Cruise: from TRAZY (from USD 12.30) or  KLOOK (from USD 12.55)

Episode 14

Giordano Concept Store @ Cheongju

Address: 16 Seongan-ro, Seongan-dong, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do
충북 청주시 상당구 성안로 16 1층 (우)28527

This Giordano outlet shares the same building as Korea Developmenet Bank (KDB) and it is beside a CGV cinema. According to the footages, it seems pretty legit that the scenes of the shop were filmed here too. Not so sure for the fitting room scene as well but I think the chances are pretty high.

** Apologies for not completing this article. Wanted to work on it more but realized that others have already done a great job and mine would just be repeated information. Now that I’m done with this drama, does any one have any other dramas to recommend?

Anyway, how did you guys find the ending? I got a little frustrated the moment it ended but on hindsight, after thinking a lot about it, I felt that it kind of made sense. Cmon, we gotta be fair to the scriptwriters. If every single drama ends up with a happy ending – that’s like so predictable.. Let’s respect the scriptwriters for staying true to their art, and not always giving in to what the consumers want. I truly enjoyed this drama and I felt that the plot was exciting, intense and I do get scared when I watch it late at night when all the lights are off.. Although I’m not a gamer, I could understand the terms pretty decently and I’m praying hard that the game ain’t becoming a reality cause the world might just get addicted (look at Pokemon Go). Oh wells~~ Do share with me your thoughts too!

      • I think you are wrong with the church in episode 16. I think it is not Jeondong cathedral! Hopefully we can find that church because that filming location is one of the most important scenes in the korean drama.

      • Hi!
Just watching this drama series, and we were surprised that we saw some Hungarian shooting places! 🙂 The interior of the Barcelona scenes were made in Budapest, Keleti Railway Station, and as I saw, the Granada station platform was shoot in Mezőtúr railway station. I totally will take a photo from same angles when I will go to the railway station after the pandemic (or ask my friend who works there 😀 ) And I bet all the train scenes were made on hungarian trains too (yes, we actually have these old ones in use)

        • Thanks for identifying the locations! I guess it would have been cheaper for the production to be in Hungary, compared to Spain. The scenes seem really cool with all that vintage looking sets.

  • Does anyone know where the park is where Cha Hyung-seok is found dead on the bench in the park? Is that in Granada? Any other filming locations in Granada or Madrid would be most helpful. Thank you

  • Hi! I think you are wrong with the church in the finale episode of Memories of Alhambra. I think it is not Jeondong cathedral. I still also cannot find the filming location of that church.

  • Can you also identify the location of the house of Jung Hee-joo (Park Shin Hye) in Korea. I want to see the real location of the beautiful house.

  • hi! Thanks for this blog. I found your blog as I was preparing for my trip to Granada just because of the memories in alhambra drama hehe.

I want to know if you maybe know about that scene in the restaurant where Emma is and where those 3 pirates are. Do you think it is also in granada? I do hope you would reply, in case you know something about this 🙂 i was pretty curious I can’t find the place. Thanks!

  • Just sharing . i think they choose granada / alhambra for the shooting location because the city has unique islamic historical city thousand years back.

  • Am watching Memories of Alcazaba. Been to Barcelona, Madrid and Toledo and few years again but not to Granada. This drama is making me want to go soon, after coronavirus of course. Have you been? Nice pics and takes!

    • Hi Ken, thanks for your comment! Yep I’ve been to Spain – Barcelona and Madrid only. Seems like there are many beautiful places in Spain to visit especially the coastal areas. Can’t wait for COV19 to be over so we can all start traveling again. It’s pretty annoying to be stuck in the same place for so long. Oh wells~~ Things can and should only get better..

  • I’m a big fan, thank you for putting this info together! Would anyone know where Hee-ju’s house in Korea is? Mr Yoo tells the taxi to take her to Ilsandong. I have been looking at Maps, but no sign of it anywhere :-(. If anyone who knows could share, it will really make me happy to see it from outside when I hope to visit Korea some day!

  • A bit late. I just started watching the series and saw about half of the episode. I don’t like it because the only thing that is Granada is the Alhambra (in that first episode). I’ve been to Granada 5 times and I none of the places look like Granada. The streets are too wide, the houses don’t look like that. I’ve never been in a house with six stories in Granada. Usually 2 or 3. Ceilings too high, the type of windows… it just doesn’t look like Andalucia at all. So I stopped watching and google “locations” and that’s how I came to this site.

  • Hi/Hello,
I actually go to Granada for the dungeons(Alcazaba) and had photo in it was delighted. Alhambra is pretty huge place area to go around and visits Palaces and gardens.
