Heartwarming and inspirational
Ed-Shullivan24 September 2019
This made for TV movie is so much better than most of the so called Hollywood produced grade 1 films that have made it to the big screen. The lead actress Cassandra Scerbo, who plays Brittany a reformed streetwalker who witnesses her pimp murder her girlfriend decides to hide from the murdering pimp by assuming her dead friends identity. Cassandra Scerbo is a natural and she plays both parts to perfection as the streetwalker in hiding, as well as the long lost niece of the couple that takes her in under her assumed identity with many secrets.

As Brittany struggles living a big lie whilst her assumed Aunt and Uncle have no idea she is faking their (dead) real niece's identity, Brittany is showered with the love of family for the first time, and she also has a smart high school boy named Zach show great interest in getting to know the "real" Brittany better.

Meanwhile Brittany's former pimp knows he has to find her and shut her up forever as she witnessed him murder the real Chelsea. The acting in this made for TV was superb and the ending is heartwarming and sure to provide much needed encouragement to any young girls who are struggling on the streets alone.

Kudos for a well done dramatic film. I give it a 7 out of 10 rating.

A lot better than the standard LMN fare

Warning: Spoilers
I usually just sit in my chair playing games while my wife watches the Lifetime movies, but something about this one grabbed my attention. Okay, maybe it's the fact that Cassie Scerbo is intensely attractive. I had to look her up to make sure she was legal. Whew. Even when her character was in high school, the clothes she wore made my head spin. I'm not going to ruin the plot for you, but she plays a reluctant prostitute trying to make her life better and ends up living someone else s life. I never really care about these movies, but the ending had me tearing up. BTW, the woman who played her aunt was incredible, playing the guilt of her character while also the fragility of hope and affection she was feeling for the main character.

Brittany looks a heckuva lot older than Chelsea and Shannon and Zach.

Warning: Spoilers
Snow day here, so I'm binging on movies in btwn naps on a lucky day off. I saw on the cast list that they are the same age irl, but I don't know how Cassie can pass for a high schooler. Maybe it's the attitude? But definitely as far as looks, she comes off as her real age. Even when she's "Chelsea," she looks too made up. I didn't realize until I read the summary that called her a "teen," that that's what she's meant to be.

That said, so far it's not too bad. Typical Lifetime (which sometimes LMN movies can surprise you). Both of Chelsea's parents being dead, as well as an aunt too ashamed to adopt her in childhood, is pretty convenient. I didn't realize the story was over a month, everything happened so fast. I did like that the aunt and uncle weren't the typical naive characters that didn't follow up on inconsistencies. The uncle at least.

The climax happened quickly and as expected. But it wasn't a terrible way to spend 90 minutes.

I cried

I really like Cassandra so maybe that's why I liked the movie more. I don't know. It is definitely a bit sappy but I like sappy. By the end I was crying like a wiener. It is hard to write a review when you don't want to spoil anything. Okay I didn't find her role as a prostitute overly believable but boy did she look hot. LOL And I'm a girl that isn't into girls.

not the worst
SnoopyStyle27 June 2016
Brittany (Cassandra Scerbo) is a Portland prostitute working for vicious pimp Oscar Jackson (Chad Rook). Brittany befriends runaway foster kid Chelsea (Kirsten Prout). Oscar mistakenly kills Chelsea and Brittany decides to assume Chelsea's identity. Chelsea's aunt Kim (Keegan Connor Tracy) hasn't seen her since she was a child and wants to adopt her.

It's one of those TV movies at the level of Lifetime. It's the worst grading it on the curve. The acting is functional. The most compelling story is the bullied high school girl. The fake dead girl story is tabloid fare. The ending is forced and quick. Overall, it doesn't really exceed that Lifetime level.

For a tv movie it was passable.

The truth is that I watched way worse tv movies than My Life As A Dead Girl. But that doesn't mean this one was of high quality. The whole movie feels like a television movie but the plot is kinda interesting so I guess it wasn't all a waste. As for the acting well there is a reason why they only act in tv movies. They will never be big stars, tv movies will be their future. But again I saw worse so it wasn't all that bad. I applaud the sound and music technician for this movie, not that it was unbelievably great, but at least they had the right idea to add some suspense sound instead of that annoying soft piano music we're normally get bombarded with in those movies. It changed immediately the quality of the movie, glad someone gets it finally.

Quest for a Real Family
lavatch13 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens in Portland, Oregon. The time is the present. "My Life as a Dead Girl" tells the harrowing saga of a young prostitute, exploited first as a foster child and ward of the state, then by a nefarious creature named Jackson, who becomes the pimp of the protagonist named Brittany.

While working the rough streets of Portland, Brittany makes friends with another foster child named Chelsea, and they plan to help Brittany break away from Jackson and recover her hard-earned money that he expropriated. But Chelsea is shot and killed by Jackson. Brittany then impersonates her friend and travels to the coastal town of Steveston, moving in with the long-lost aunt of Chelsea.

For a moment, Brittany is successful with her identity theft scheme, but her new foster parents, Kim and Donnie, soon become suspicious. There is a touching relationship developed between Brittany and her adopted aunt, who genuinely cares for the young woman regardless of her identity.

There are other scenes at school where Brittany comes to the rescue of a mousey nerd named Shannon. Brittany stands up to the student who is bullying Shannon and eventually has the perpetrator expelled from school.

Another connection at Steveston High is a romantic relationship blossoming between Brittany and a brainy student named Zach. A charmer and over-achiever, Zach is successful is getting Brittany to tell the truth about her past. But when he learns that she has worked as a prostitute, he bails on her in the middle of dinner. Later, he feels remorse and tries to make amends. The relationship between Brittany and Zach was one of the best parts of the film because the characters had genuine chemistry and a heartfelt connection.

Aunt Kim and Uncle Donnie have unbounded love to offer Brittany and to provide her with the home she has never had There is a defining moment in the film when Brittany is about to shop-lift a tube of lipstick while shopping with Aunt Kim. A child witnesses the scene and gives Brittany a hate stare. It is as if the child is the symbol of Brittany's own youth and lost innocence. She then returns the lipstick, which is a token gesture of how she is undergoing a life-changing experience that will culminate in her moving past the threshold of a nightmare to experience a real family.

More Keegan
kupcr16 May 2020
I've been a Tracy fan for awhile and imagine what I did when I found out that Cassie Scerbo, Kirsten Prout and Keegan Connor Tracy were in the same film, I wasn't disappointed. Scerbo, who plays a Prostitute named Britney, befriends a runaway teenager named Chelsea, who is eventually killed by her new friend Brittany's pimp and returns to Chelsea's family she left years ago. Britney does her best to get by under her new identity, until the truth begins to emerge.

The soundtrack
joeyloran30 April 2022
Is the absolute worst. It pulls you from any acting that is happening on screen. At best, I would give this movie three stars if they cut the horrendous lyrical ballads from every other scene. Wildly inappropriate scoring.
