Simple, they didn't change the password from default which was something like admin/admin or admin/12345. Site probably just pings every device on the net via ports they use and if one of default passwords works - camera gets addet to the site.

Lots of cams are up for the viewing, especially these days. Everyone wants to make sure that they're safe. But are they? I think that they are MOSTLY safe...
I, Personally, like to view webcams of beautiful landscapes, a live sunset in Tahiti, daily market in a small town in Germany, just watch people walking by and watch towns and compare differences. It's really fascinating. I haven't come across anything inappropriate, and I've been a live streaming webcam fan for many years. For me, it's kind of like going on vacation without leaving my home.

At this time I'd say no. There is nothing there but a spinning circle and some arrows. Despite a ten-minute wait for the page to load, nothing ever happened. I see it is in Beta mode so that might explain why there isn't any content.
Sorry, I forgot to also mention that the page is not secure (with https:// as opposed to http://), so that is something you might want to resolve as well during your Beta phase.

This reminds me of this IP camera search you could make on Google. Every result from the search was a link to a street camera you can control remotely. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?? I might as well be making this up, I can't find the old tutorial or remember the search query to save my life.

I remember I used to be able to do this when I was younger. Literally cameras all over the world. As you said, some allowed us to control them and move them. I forgot the name of it, I just know that these cameras had to use JAVA to work.

It's a good idea but you should know that there are a lot of exploits to hack it even with strong password. The best way to secure it is to cut your internet cable.
