What Parishes Have the Fattest Residents in Louisiana?

Bad news on the health front for Louisiana. Barbend.com reports 63 parishes in the Bayou State have packed on pounds over the past 10 years. Only one parish (Allen) has actually shown weight loss among its residents

This report is yet another warning about health issues that can come with obesity problems.

The number crunchers at County Health Rankings shows Americans have been adding weight since the 1980’s and campaigns to address the problem have had very little impact as waist lines continue to expand. And the pandemic has not helped as more Americans stayed home and turned to food for comfort.

In Louisiana, folks in Allen Parish logged a 1% decrease in obesity. East Carroll Parish shows the biggest gains with 12% more residents falling into the obese category.

How Did Northwest Louisiana Perform

43% of Bienville Parish residents are considered obese, up from 39% over ten years.

43% of Red River Parish residents are considered obese, up from 35% over ten years.

43% of Claiborne Parish residents are considered obese, up from 34% over ten years.

42% of Natchitoches Parish residents are considered obese, up from 36% over ten years.

42% of Webster Parish residents are considered obese, up from 36% over ten years.

40% of Caddo Parish residents are considered obese, up from 32% over ten years.

40% of DeSoto Parish residents are considered obese, up from 37% over ten years.

39% of Sabine Parish residents are considered obese, up from 36% over ten years.

36% of Bossier Parish residents are considered obese, up from 31% over ten years.

Surprisingly, Orleans Parish performs the best in the state with 33% of residents considered obese. That’s up from 33% over ten years. In East Baton Rouge, 36% of residents are in the obese category, up from 32%.

The overall statewide average shows 36% of Louisiana residents fall into the obese category, which is up from 33% in 2012.
