William James Sidis had an estimated IQ of around 250 to 300, was reading The New York Times at 18 months , at 6 he could speak 7 languages, at 9 he was accepted into Harvard University, he graduated at 12 and died a penniless recluse.
This is just straight up lies.
Penniless is better than penisless which is how I first read it
Half the world is penisless. Trust me, it's way better to have money.
Would you rather have money and lose it or have penis and lose it?
Is this why women only care about money?
Yeah but having a penis means you make more money. It's win-win.
“Penisless recluse? Wtf happened to his- Oh, I see.”
Me too. Several times.
Same.
What a cock-up! 🐓
A mind is a terrible thing.
I wouldn't know
OK - you need to unlearn a couple of things.
(1) The languages are 'self reported' .. meaning nobody really knows.
(2) He enrolled at Harvard at 11 and graduated at 16.
And the “250-300 IQ” number is dubious at best.
Also
"In early 1910, Sidis' mastery of higher mathematics was such that he lectured the Harvard Mathematical Club on four-dimensional bodies which brought him nationwide attention"
Imo it sounds ridiculous he was able to do that at 12 but oke, maybe it's true?
Being the smartest person in the room can be very lonely..... I should know! I’m the potted plant in the Oval Office
take my upvote!
Really look at the stupid people. They are so happy and content. They don’t need to know how anything works or where it comes from. Ignorance is bliss. I’m just at smart enough to know how dumb I am. But not dumb enough to be happily unaware.
The Forest Gump effect
According to wikipedia the picture in this post was taken when he graduated, so when he was 12. Idk if it’s just me but he looks ... older.
He knew too much...
All the rest of us would seem like brainless morons. Actually 🤔....
What makes stupid people insufferable to be around is that they have strong opinions that they express in brutish ways, and they're wrong about a lot of stuff... but they're proud and they'll just beat your down with their emotional ape hands if you ever dare to correct them.
Being smart in a sea of stupid people is very very isolating. It's like watching everybody use their spoons upside down. You'd love to help, but they're just going to bitch at you if you do.
When you have a good idea to share, they tell you that you're full of shit. Intellectual islands are the worst. It's easier to be ignorant and happy.
Being smart has nothing to do with being successful. Sure, it can help, but there are so many other things that go into being a successful and happy person. Some of the dumbest people have found a way to be both more happy and successful than the average person.
So he died at 12? Or he died later but didn’t have any money? I guess if he died old without money, he was not that smart? I dint really know what penniless recluse is. Probably he knew what that means at 12.
When you are that smart, i assume money is not worth striving for and interacting with morons all around you becomes unbearable. He was probably the loneliest guy. Imagine being born on the planet of the apes, but the apes were dumb as rocks compared to you.
Welcome to my life.
thanks, i needed that laugh today
Penniless recluse = poor and no friends/family or hiding from public. He graduated Harvard at 12 though dunno when he died
Edit - he was 46 when he died
I guess im on the right track then.
A pursuit of wealth is a serf's goal. I'd rather be broke and alone off in the woods than be surrounded by people that are so clueless they only think of themselves even when they think they have others in mind.
Amen!
Or you can surround yourself with awesome people and have a nice house with nice stuff in it. Then you can use your enormous intellect to solve problems to make peoples lives better. You know, rather than hiding in a forest because you can only think of yourself.
He lived till his mid forties. He died penniless as he shorted Netflix, Tesla, Amzon and pot stocks as he clearly indicated they were wildly overvalued.
Why would money be a measure of how smart you are?
Welcome to US politics
Needs to have a backstory to understand why he died a penniless recluse despite being that smart.
Do you have a source for your claims?
IQ is a function of statistical frequency. The frequency of 201 IQ is 1 in 120 billion.
An estimated 110 million humans have ever lived. As such, it is unlikely that any human has ever had an IQ above 201, including this guy.
Edit: only 110 billion ever lived
Yes, only 110 million people have ever lived.
It's almost like all that stuff about working hard, making the most of your gift, and getting a good education getting you ahead in life is complete and total utter fucking horseshit.
Interesting! How was his life between 12 and 46?
Given he died a penniless recluse, I’m going to say, “Not ideal.”
yea probably not tight

Are you sure that's not Greg Schiano?
Damn, that fell apart quick
Is that Sheldon
Cap
No friends, no money
So this is where the saying "Too smart for your own good" came from?
Just because you're smart, doesn't mean you're good with money.
Just because you have money doesn't mean you're smart. Idiots everywhere friend, even in the frat houses.
