Anna Kay Faris was born to her parents in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 29, 1976. She is known as the second child of Jack, who is a sociology professor, and her mother Karen Faris, who is a special education teacher. Both her parents belonged to Seattle, Washington, but they were living in Baltimore at the time of Faris’ birth because her father had accepted an offer of the professorship at Towson University. When Faris was at the age of six, her family shifted from Baltimore to Edmonds, Washington.

Her father started working at the University of Washington with the post of a vice president of internal communications, and later on got headship of the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association, on the other hand, her mother started teaching at Seaview Elementary School in Edmonds. Faris blessed with an older brother, named Robert, who also known as a sociologist as well as a professor at the University of California, Davis.
