A Great Theme Park, Very Impressed as First Time Visitors
Our once in a life trip to Florida was cancelled at the last minute, and having done Disneyland Paris so many times over the years, we wanted to do something different, and we ended up booking to stay at Portaventura. I've just left a review for The Callaghans, which was an excellent hotel, our home for the week there. With Covid19 protocols in place the park was a pleasure to walk around, not busy at all. Some days were busier than others during our six day stay, but it was great to not have to queue forever to do a short ride. There was a lot of choice of things to do for the family. The Sesame Street 3D dark ride was one of our childrens favorites... it was really well done. We must've done the rapids ride a dozen times at least over the week, the wait time being so short. Food was excellent with our Full Board package. We got in effect a three course meal included. In some ways it was too much, but we're not complaining. A salad as a started, a huge burger and fries, a desert, a 500ml of beer... no wonder my waistline has grown :o) Social distancing in the park was set up well by the staff, but at times totally disregarded by lots of Spanish visitors. So many times I had to ask people to stand further away, particularly in the restaurant queues, with people literally touching me. Nothing the park can do to some extent, but in Catalonia, you'd have thought local visitors would've been taking things more seriously. That being said constant cleaning was evident throughout the park. It was a shame that the shows were all cancelled, you'd have thought it would've been possible to do them in a socially distanced way. We bought the "yard" of beer glasses, that we cleaned daily, and the park cleaned upon each refill. Not anywhere near a yard of ale :o) but you probably get about 150ml extra for free with each refill. What a relief it was to drink a freezing cold Estrella Damm in the searing heat. All in all we had a fantastic time. We felt incredibly lucky to be on holiday at all, after what has been a pretty crappy year for many. Maybe who knows, just maybe we might get to do it all again one day :o) Thanks for reading.

    Great family day out
Great for all the family went on Tuesday was in for about 11 and stayed til a storm stopped the rides about 9.30pm ish. Was really worried about que times longest que was an hour an half for my son and husband for shambala (hope that’s right 😂) rest well waited no more than 30mins and my hubby and son went on everything the later it got shorter que times seem to be only disappointment was furious baco was not open now we went to Ferrari land Thursday my son did red force and and tower things again ques again where only about half an hour for each. My granddaughter enjoyed all the kiddies rides but apart from the 2 big rides mentioned not much at all in Ferrari land more for kids under 10 I’d say then we went back to portaventura longest que time 45mins and some of them time boards need updating said 30mins we was on in 10 now the best bit if you can go at night best time some of the rides where walk on but this was late like 10.30pm also my son got to go on furious baco all in all we had a great time not done water park yet so will post about that later hope this helps just a couple of tips don’t get slush across from rapids it’s just sugared water no ice then I also recommend the restaurant in Wild West sorry forgot name

Great Rides but expensive food and queuing issues.
PortAventura was a great day out for us (2 adults and 1 teen) there was plenty of calm water rides for the easy goers as well as adrenalin filled experiences for the thrill seekers. Do go prepared with your own water and be prepared for expensive food inside the park - the quality was all ok but a mindset of it is what it is will help you out. Coffee and pastries were reasonable infact the croissants were awesome in the morning. Rides were first class especially Stampida and Dragon Khan but prepare to be thrown about a bit. Only down sides were the queue times, their system seemed to be 20 mins shorter than actual timings, eg 10 mins advertised times took 30 mins, 40 mins took and hour. We did buy the 10 ticket express pass but they were really inflexible about missing out rides and adding others as our teen didn't fancy Shamabala. The app was useful for navigation but ride times did not populate in the app consistently. There was the usual difficulties with the exit lane jumpers, teenagers trying to use the exit lane to skip the queue ls which slows everything down as they occupy seats or create delays when getting kicked off the rides. We will go back, but next time we will try and spread the park over two days.

Great fun. Something for everyone. Long qs for large roller coasters even off peak . Qd for 50mins for Uncharted and it lasted about 2 mins! Food/drink very expensive and not great in park. All decorated for Halloween from end Sept with brilliant scary characters walking around . Even more amazing Halloween weekend when everyone comes in costume. Love this park. Make sure to book tickets online as a lot more expensive at gate. Ferrari land useless unless your into those cars. The fast roller coaster is the only decent ride in there.

We had an enjoyable 3 days at the park.
We found the park to be clean and tidy throughout and theming was great and then halloween decorations on top were awesome.
The only thing that was disappointing was the ride time estimates, they would differ between the ride boards and the app which was very confusing when trying to figure out what to do. Also compared to other themepark apps found this one a little bit harder to use.
We visited Monday-Wednesday, so overall queue times weren't too bad, Monday was the busiest.
But plenty of other things like the shows to enjoy to.
Has a good variety of rides and attractions.
We would definitely visit again, have to say Shambhala is now my new favourite coaster, air time is fantastic!

Good park
Busy at times
Spanish were rude as if English shouldn’t be there
Queue times for rides are ridiculous but hey that’s what a theme park is like I guess

This was my 8th visit to Portaventra as we love Salou and never visit without going to Portaventra. In fact its probably the main reason we do still visit time after time. This time was slightly different though as we normally visit end of June start of July, although I have been here start of August and at the end of May start of June before as well. August was by far the busiest time I've ever experienced but that's to be expected as that's high season. Also this time we were not staying at a Portaventra park hotel so we could not just visit everyday like we have always had the luxury of doing.
This time we visited from 21st - 23rd September. First two days were not that busy, well not compared to the Saturday anyway. I knew Saturday was going to be busier as the weekends at the park generally are but also I had done my research and knew the Halloween festivities would be kicking off then as well.
This meant we could get all our rides we wanted to go on done on our first two days leaving us the 3rd day free to enjoy the Halloween fun and just soak up all the atmosphere, play games and shop for souvenirs and gifts. This was also the first time my partner and I were able to see the nightly parade and fireworks display together. I had seen these before years ago but due to us always going at end of June start of July when the park closes around 7pm with just a mini parade as that is low season. The fireworks display was out of this world - more on this later.
We were honestly like big kids running around taking pictures and getting all excited over the Halloween decorations. We love Halloween and felt like kids wakening up on Christmas morning.
We love Portaventra and how each area is so well themed right down to littlest details even the bins. Everything is in alignment with that themed area. Well the Halloween decorations did not disappoint either, every area was fully decked out with its own themed Halloween decor to match the area, for example the skeletons in the Far West had pistols, cowboy hats and boots whereas the skeletons in Polynesia had hula skirts on. 😀❤️ So simple but so effective, it's details like this that I love about Portaventra. You guys think of everything.
We got on Shambhala and Dragon Khan in the first 2 days with no more than 20-30mins wait each day.
We waited in line for 35mins on the Thursday for Uncharted but then an announcement came on to say the ride was temporarily out of order. As a regular to Portaventra I know that they test the rides throughout the day and normally this is just a 10min delay but on this occasion there was no communication/ announcement to advise if it was just a routine check with and estimated time to wait for the ride to resume or whether this was going to be out of action for longer. There was also no way of knowing just how far the line stretched and where the ride would be begin. You queue in like a cave so it just felt like every time you turned a corner you were met with another long snaking line of people leading to yet another corner on the far side of the room. This got a bit claustrophobic for my partner and with no word as to how long we would be waiting or how much wait time was actually ahead of us in the queue anyway we decided to head back out. Little but gutted as I've always been fortunate enough to visit Portaventra after a new ride has been released and I've always managed to get on with reasonable amount of waiting time. I saw the wait time for this jump to 3.5hours on the Saturday.
We love the big rides and love that you can buy a video memory of these to bring back and show friends and family as well as keep forever. It has become a tradition now that when we go to Portaventra we get a video memory of us on Shambhala and Furius Baco. Sadly though this time we were only able to get a trailer video for Furius Baco.
I think this is becuse the link to download the video to your phone needs to be done whilst you are still at the stall where the connection must be stronger. I had roaming data on my phone and even tried the hotel WiFi when I got back but still could only download the 31seconds trailer clip and not the full video which should last around 1minute. You pay €16.90 for these videos so disappointing it has not worked. The woman at this stall did not have great English and only instructed me to wait 5mins before scanning QR code.
However after visiting Ferrari Land and going on Red Force where they offer you a video of the ride - 🙌amazing as last time we visited it had just opened and this was not an option, best thing ever! The guy at that stall had much better English than the woman at Furius Baco and asked me to download right away in front of him so he could check that it all worked okay for me because in his words "sometimes the link does not work so please check". He then explained how you should get 2 videos, one trailer lasting around 30seconds and then your full video. These downloaded for me no bother. I then tried to re-download my Furius Baco video at this stall but it did not work. I will try and email the support email I found in the app though. 🤞
I didn't bother trying to return to the Furius Baco stall to ask about this because the staff at the photo/video stalls around the park do not have great English, well not as far as I have experienced in all my years of going.
This was particularly apparent at the Shambhala stall but thankfully there was one woman who's English was better and she was able to explain to me why we had been on the ride twice on two separate days but both times had been told "no video only photo". So it turns out that only the first 5 rows on all 3 train karts for Shambhala have working video feeds. Sorry, I should say these "should" have working video feeds. The woman told me that if I wanted a video then to make sure I sat on one of the first 5 rows but even then she could not guarantee they would definitely work but that would be my best chance. I was so greatful for this information because like I said we had endured this ride twice just to get the video lol 🙈
Unfortunately though we did not manage back on as on the Saturday the wait times jumped to 2hrs 50mins and never went below 1hr 50mins. I did check the price for an express pass but it would have cost between €60 - €90 each for a pass. We decided on this occasion we would make do with our Red Force video and our Furius Baco trailer video.
This is my only gripe with Portaventra Park, I just feel that surely all seats on Shambhala could be fitted with video feeds to allow everyone who rides the option to purchase the video memory. Red Force offers this.
Now on to the Halloween fun and festivities 🎃 absolutely out of this world. Would highly recommend to everyone and anyone to visit Portaventra between 23rd September and 12th November as you will not be disappointed. Not only do the shops and restaurants around the park sell Halloween themed food and merchandise but there are also Halloween passages to experience as well as actors walking around dressed up amongst the people to entertain and or pose for pictures and videos.
The passages do cost extra but totally worth it. There is a passport passage deal you can get which allows you entrance to all 5 passages for €30. Bargain! Only thing though I'm not sure if it means you can just gain entry to the passage in the Caribe Water Park as part of this package or if you still need to purchase a ticket into the Caribe Water Park on top of this. We didn't bother with the passport as figured it was only €7/8 per passage anyway and just in case there was queues we thought it would be best to just pay as we went around. Probably worked out the best doing this as turns out our nerves were shattered after the first one that I don't think we could have manged the others haha.
So we done the REC experience in Polynesia - best €16 (€8each) I've ever spent in my life. I hadn't even seen the film but knew the jist lol the guy comes to get you in full hazmat suit and the announcement is in Spanish which I think helps to raise the fear factor in us non Spanish speaking people. It did then repeat in English which I did think was a nice touch and not sure if that made it worse as now you know what the announcement said haha. Basically it set the scene that they advise you not to pass through but if you do have to then do not touch anything or anyone as they do not know what this virus is (play on the plot of the film) and obviously the signs before you go in advise of walking not running, no cameras or objects that could injure you or others and that they are all actors and you will not be touched or harmed. Yea that's all very well and good and believe me you do try tell yourself that as you struggle to remain and calm and rational. 🤣
As you enter the cave through this tunnel of black tarp and strobe lights you enter the abandoned labs or whatever the setting was - don't remember much about that as was too busy keeping my eye out for zombies with a flesh eating virus coming at me. 🙈 The whole setting inside is so intense and is just like the set of a horror movie complete with blood stains and animatronics. You nervously navigate your way through (thankfully they send you in in groups of 6 but we were at the bloody front) scared to walk passed windows, doors and floor to ceiling curtains because you just know something is about to jump out at you.
I don't want to spoil too much for the next person here but all I will say is I seen legs at the bottom of a ramp and then she came running up passed me, another guy whispered something in Spanish right in my ear that I can only describe as the same mumbles I heard from Reagan in the Exorcist and then a guy appeared with a chainsaw (fake obviously but looked and sounded real) so I ran like hell screaming the whole way out of there. Haha. Honestly so much fun but boy did we need a drink after that. I definitely think Portaventra are missing an opportunity here because I would pay up to €20 for a video of the Halloween passage walk through footage. What a great souvenir memory that would be to have to watch over and over again. I can't wait to tell everyone about this experience but obviously I'm only remembering few short bits of it. Think about it Portaventra please - definitely reckon there would be enough demand for this.
We were really hoping to do the other passages as there was 2 in Mexico and one in the Far West that we fancied as well.
We didn't manage to the others though due to being too full from our lunch and also I think we had been scared enough for one day haha.
We had done the Texas Horror passage /walk through thing in the Far West back in 2018 and it cost €5 and was the best experience ever. We love scary films and like to be scared so for us this was amazing. Obviously would have liked to have seen the Halloween version of this but we were happy enough with our REC experience and just needed to chill after our lunch.
I did see the greeter person for La Muerte Viva in Mexico and she had a cape on with one of those pure white porcelain day of the dead doll face masks on. That was enough for me😲🙈🤣
Even if you didn't manage in to any of the passages you had live actors in each area putting on we shows here and there or just wondering around amongst you to help set the spooky scene.
We usually spend most of our time in the Far West where we found lots of actors walking around but we also walked back through to check Shambhala wait times and found more as we passed through Mexico and then a whole section along the great wall of China. China knows how to party - these guys were walking right up to you and trying to scare you, jumping out at you, there was pyrotechnics and smoke effects and this ghostly geisha who would just follow you and stare at you. We just thought this was fantastic and great interactive entertainment for all.
There was also Halloween themed shows on, we managed to catch the Bang Bang Halloween show in the Far West on the Friday. Its just slap stick stunt show but good family fun.
We also waited in line for the Vampires show in the Saloon in the Far West but when we got to the front she asked for our booking/reservation. I said I didn't have one so she pointed to the other queue. Now obviously we did wonder why there was 2 queues as we were waiting but there was no signs to say which was which. We then joined the other queue only to get to the front and be told that there was no space left as it only holds so many. We were then shrunk into the crowd by a couple of Spanish families speaking to the woman in Spanish to try and get in. There was a table with 2 chairs that would have been fine for my partner and me but we were not offered this. One of the Spanish families had 4 members and the other 3 - we do know our Spanish numbers plus we could clearly see the bodies behind us.
This was a little off putting and disappointing but we do not speak fluent and Spanish and are guests in the country and indeed the park and we are not ones to cause trouble so we just headed round to Mediterránia area for something to eat and meant we could pick a great spot for the parade and fireworks.
The nightly parade was Halloween themed and did not disappoint, it had something for everyone as does Portaventra itself. I just love how everyone sits together to watch and enjoy the parade, strangers from around the world united in those moments.
The fireworks display was absolutely phenomenonal. I always remember it being good but this was another level and out of this world. Again I do not want to spoil this for anyone going but honestly it is a must see. Trust me.
My advice is get yourself down to Mediterránia around 8:15pm - 8:45pm to get a good spot for the parade and fireworks. We got there around 8:40pm and just managed to bag one of the last spots on the wall next to the stage.
The parade comes from the Far West over the bridge and down the main walkway to the big stage as you enter the park. It goes passed this and then turns left of the big house. The fireworks display happens from across the water and there are also water boats that represent some of the areas. We sat on the wall across from the stairs which meant we had good view of the parade as it passed and then we swung our legs round and had an amazing view of the fireworks and water display.
Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days at Portaventra and cannot wait to visit again. Definitely think we will try go again when Halloween festivities have started. 🙌🎃❤️

I found the place difficult to negotiate. I had downloaded the Ap, which I eventually worked out.
Unlike the Us theme parks there were very few if any staff throughout the park who were there to help. All in all the visit was confusing and difficult to understand and work out. It would have been so much better we’re there staff throughout the park to help.

Amazing park, however do not stand in the queue for unchartered. Wait time usually 90 mins. Worst ride in the park. Nothing to see in the queue, theme makes no sense and when you get to ride, major disappointment

PortAventura has something for everybody, regardless of their age; from little kids with the Sesame Street area (and not so kids if you’re a fan, or just want to bring back childhood memories), with attractions for all the family and shows; to older (and taller!) adrenaline lovers, with many roller coasters and other attractions.
Also lots of carnival games too! And not to mention a great parade at night and a fabulous showcase of fireworks and huge puppets with lights.
The entries are affordable but I would highly recommend and advise you get the express pass, otherwise you’ll spend hours in queues on some attractions, the express pass is not cheap though, but it is worthy to have it, that way you will enjoy most of the park’s attractions.
Also food is not very cheap either, and not many healthy options, so if you can, bring your own. Also don’t forget to bring comfy shoes cause you’ll walk a lot!!!
This is one of the best amusement parks I’ve visited, and also I loved that they have a lot of rides for people with wheelchairs.
Will definitely visit in the future!

Having visited, Disney land & peppa pig world with our now 4 year old, and her being able to get on majority of the children’s rides with an adult we looked into visiting during our stay in Salou.
The park is situated in close proximity to most hotels around a 10-15 minute drive from the main drag.
Upon arrival there is a large car park which is used for access too all 3 parks (€14 per day).
We’d already booked tickets so managed to skip the line straight to the main gates to gain access.
The park itself is set out nicely with 4/5 different areas, with us being there mainly for a toddler we headed straight to Sesame Street land, to our surprise the majority of the rides had a minimum height even with an accompanying adult of 1.05 - 1.30 meters. Majority of the rides which our daughter could get on where closed and we where told ‘they only open on weekends’ no mention of this on the website. As previously stated the rides which you would be able to get on at other larger theme parks we where not able to access with our daughter. Ideally if you want to not have a disappointed child you’re best best is for them to be around 8/9 years old to guarantee getting on rides.
The food selection from the fast food stalls is quite limited to pizza slices, hot dogs and chips which are reasonably priced at around €10-13 for a meal deal. If you are wanting something a bit more fancy there are various restaurants dotted around also.
Plenty of places to get in the shade if the sun becomes too much throughout the day.
The main rides didn’t have much of a queue so managed to get on them with little to no hassle.
