I don't consider Emma's ranking as impressive because Kitty (both first appeared in 1980) has appeared more and and 1981 Rogue beat them.

#1 Wolverine cos he takes the top spot with a 4k lead.

#2 Storm because despite of first appearing in 1975, her figures beat (except Cyclops) the original xmen characters who first appeared 12 years earlier than her.

A little impressive.

#1 Cyclops leading 1k more than Beast who eventhough appears in Avengers comics too.

#2 Colossus beating other original xmen members

#3 Rogue beating other characters who first appeared earlier than her and will beat Nightcrawler's numbers soon.

Storm is close to Cyke because there are not many x-men comics between that 12years & storm is appearing IN BP & avengers too.Isn't she in F4 also?

And logan is top marvel character with 1K lead.

She was, during her marriage with BP as temporary replacements for Invisible Woman and Mr Fantastic, for 6 issues.

Storm probably edged out the other founding members because Ultimate Marvel, X-men Forever and other alternate realities are counted. In the Ultimate Universe she survived while many other characters were killed and was a prominent character in X-Men Forever where characters like Iceman, Angel and Professor X didn't even appear.

Gambit surprises me though, guy was meant to be getting a solo film and he isn't even top 10 on this list. Maybe it was all those game appearances and him being in Wolverine: Origins which was made Marvel see him as being bankable.

OT: Some of these are kind of messed up because they include reprints such as X-Men Classic, international publications, Wizard Magazine, etc.

hmm i guess you can save some money on it too, having a Storm or Cyclops movie would probably be expensive.

Yeah a filter to separate some of these would be nice.

honestly, the top numbers aren't that surprising. Wolverine is marvels golden cash cow, and for a long long time was basically thrown into any comic and story arc they could get him into. Part of the reason a lot of people got tired of the character.

The main franchise was basically "the Cyclops show" from Decimation until Secret Wars II...and Storm has always trailed just behind Cyke and Logan in terms of popularity, but was spared being forced into every comic printed like Logan was and was therefore able to maintain her characters integrity far more.

There are a few surprising standouts the lower you get though. Havoc and Cannonball notably

Kind of surprising to see Cyclops has more appearances than characters like Iron Man or Hulk who both have a lot of solo comics and many team appearances, granted that it's in part because of all the reprints and non-english versions of X-Men. But let's say if I were to guess which characters in Marvel had the most appearances, I wouldn't have put Cyclops in the top 5, probably not even in the top 10.

It's also good to note that Storm has more number of appearances than Wonder Woman.

@jhazzroucher: Indeed, especially considering the fact that Wonder Woman has been around for twice as long, and is considered one of the most important figures in DC and comics in general.

@jhazzroucher: Probably because dc is bat/sup show,even their supporting characters has more appearances than other prominent heroes.Thankfully logan doesn't have weapon x program members all over marvel.

Beast has 1,500 more apperances than the rest of the O5. His short solo stint and being an Avenger in the 70s must of helped him out.

I get your point. I hope we get the numbers too without counting those reprints.

What is available on this site are reprints are counted FOR EVERYBODY ELSE including counting reprints of other publishers like DC, valiant, etc. so the numbers are still a good basis for which character has more appearances in comics.

@jhazzroucher: yeah I don’t think there’s a way to properly filter the reprint appearances.

@handofprometheus: It counts trades, reprint, all different language versions published of a story. So it's very possible that some stories are counted like 10 times due to duplicates. Marvel Wiki's appearances figures are probably better for comparison since they count each issue once (as far as I recall)

I actually remembered creating a thread similar to this topic a while ago, not certain if i created that thread here but most probably at cbr.com. i tried googling for it but couldn't find it, perhaps cbr has completely deleted those thread cos cbr site kinda renews itself every once in a while.

Anyway, i did remember a certain poster providing me a site that provides # of appearances that didn't count reprints, trades, etc. I however forgot the name of the site but...
