What's the backstory behind the infamous Funkytown video?
Arguably the most infamous gore video on the entire internet, and for good reason, it's absolutely terrifying. However, try as I must, I literally can't find any context behind this video. Who was the victim? Which cartels were involved? When did the video start surfacing? Nothing, no information.
All I've heard is vague rumours that the victim was a rival gang member, but nothing to concretely back this up.
It seems like there isn't a single person who knows where this video originated from. It's rather strange, considering how abominable this footage is.
Does anyone here have any idea as to this video's origins? Any idea where I can enquire further?
Throughout the vid the guy recording says “te eqibocaste de lado”(came to the wrong side). Hes most likely a rival sicario
I have seen comment saying that the victim was a paid informant. Would it make sense in the context of a phrase you translated?
Yea it can definitely make sense in the aspect that they were on the wrong side of the law
Thanks!
Damn, I really want to know full backstory behind it. Maybe someday.
He was a rat as they say. Could be for the authorities or rival gangs/cartel.
*equivocaste
do you mind telling me what happens because I.. really don’t want to watch it but I am interested in knowing the contents of the video

South America seems like an actual hell on earth.
It's just don't mess with Criminal Stuff, and if you're lucky you gonna die sleeping, i hope...
Sicking and sad. Those motherfuckers have to face God one day.
I think you mean Satan, these guys are not meeting God.
They work for Satan.
This is months after the post, but I have to play the devils advocate here.
South America is mostly catholic. The history of catholicism has been nothing but murder, debauchery and cruelty. So many people have died because they weren't Christians, or weren't the right kind of Christian. Christianity is evil all the way to the creation story .
The history of satanism is really really short. Before the 20th century there wasn't really satanists. The pagans were the scapegoat then. Pagan gods were labeled as demonic, and witches (which, never fucking existed) were the go to pariah to kill. The satanic panic is the modern iteration of this, and of you can believe it, involved innocent people being arrested, punished and set for execution, for not much other then being Gothic teens in the wrong place at the wrong time. The time spent on death row permanently damaged damiens eyesight.
Satan is just an excuse for evil, and Christianity is the engine of that evil.
Mexico is in North America, dumbass
You think that the Aztec civilisation wasn’t as brutal this problem runs in the culture of these societies not religion
I have to disagree with you here that Christianity's history in Mexico is nothing but murder or evil.
When the Spaniards arrived in South America they did not arrive to a heavenly society, the prominent civilizations of the time were not so different from what these cartels do today, the Aztecs practiced human sacrifice almost on a weekly basis including ripping the organs out most of the time a mass amount of people not just one or two, infact what got the Spaniards to the tipping point was their paranoia that the people wanted to sacrifice them, part of this was that during their accomodation at the empire the people were celebrating a pagan religious festival in which human sacrifice was needed and they had heard rumors that they were the next sacrifice.
The way the Spanish took down a whole Empire with just 50 men was not by themselves but by allying and recruiting people form neighboring tribes which were often the livestock of the Empire where they would kidnap children and people in general for the sacrifices, it's not too hard to imagine the environment these people lived was often brutal, the Spanish went as far as to take 2 years off the conquest to debate a full invasion or not, so when the Spanish arrive it is considered an injustice to the angelic natives??
When Catholicism became the religion of the State and the Europeans took charge of the conquered land, they installed hospitals, Churches, goodly laws and ethics that defined human value as an image of God and not mean't for consumption (wink) and outlawed cannibalism and human sacrifices as vile, these pricks picked on innocent tribest that couldn't defend themselves to take their sacrifices and next meals is this what you take as good? wake up modern Mexico with all it's cartels commiting enhanced human torture and cannibalism is nothing more than a revival of the ancient system and abandonment of Catholicism.
This post right here is peak reddit
When in doubt blame a global religion in which the role model did not do anything wrong because your devoid of any profound opinions.
God isn’t real lmao.
Some people like me believe he is so shut up
And some people believe earth is flat. Some people believe Santa is real. Some people believe they are modern day prophets.
Respecting every belief merely because someone holds it is stupidity.
Sorry. God isn’t real just because you believe he is.
I don’t care what you think I’ma keep believing what I think worry about yourself
you gon be sobbing once yo ass come with god bro
Sorry, God is real no matter if you believe in Him or not. See what I did there?
Also, there is unquestionable proof that the earth isn't flat, that Santa doesn't exist, etc. Do you have unquestionable proof that God doesn't exist? Serious question, because the way you affirm something inherently almost impossible to proof (either way), is quite something.
In fact, I would say, you are HOLDING a BELIEF, is stupidity not respecting your belief?
There’s bunch of proof he’s real.
Um, I know this is old, and I'm not getting in on the God debate. Just wanted to point out, Santa was real. That's not really disputed. His real name was Saint Nicholas. He lived around 280 a.d. in Turkey.
Some people believe that if you put water, dirt, and poison into a barrel and shake it for billion years, it will produce a human. Smart atheists. Love them.
No one believes that
go back to r/atheism, holmes
Remind me when tf we asked tho?
This comment made a big-assed drama between Atheists and Christians
Why do you eat this always have the debate that God isn't real, you don't believe in him so why do you argue? Probably deep down you do believe in him but you are upset because you probably didn't get a girlfriend or something so you took it out on him. Y'all get mad at us for not supporting you as an atheist but y'all always rip us apart if we believe in God. God is very real, and if he don't believe that he created the world, you must be really dumb. See how do you like me ripping you apart for being an atheist, same thing goes with ripping people part of their Christian. Keep it to yourself, if someone brings up God... You don't have to put your two cents in on how you don't believe in God, we get it You're an atheist You want to boast about how you don't believe in God when you really do.
You got me! I believe in god deep down.
If you don’t want me to say he doesn’t exist, then maybe you shouldn’t bring him up in the first place.
Follow your own rule and keep it to yourself
No they won't. That's the most sickening part. We tell little boys about hell in the hope they don't grow up and do this sorta shit. But there's no God.
It’s odd you think there is a god after seeing this
Would a god worth beliving allow this even though he has the free just as much as we do to stop it? Personally id make an attempt to stop it if given the chance and means why dont you start praying to me because morally speaking i guess im better than god
Leave it to a human to think or joke about being better than a God - the irony of that is hilarious.
Why would a God desecrate his creation by interfering with man's free will? If our Creator did that, it would render the entire human experiment null.
Free will is what allows us to grow. Heaven and Hell are within the realms of possibility, strictly due to free will. Do you think humans could ever grow or evolve, or become more than they are, if they aren't left to their own devices, in order to learn?
What makes life valuable? Life is valuable because someday it will end.
What makes something beautiful? Something is beautiful because it appeals to the eye more than most things. It stands out.
What I'm saying is, humans need duality. We need contrast. Day and night. Light and dark. good and evil. black and white. etc etc. It is only when two extremes exist, that one can find the balance between them.
Whatever created us, wants us to experience Life in its myriad of forms, and to use our OWN experiences and choices to determine what path to follow in life.
Unfortunately that's just what we tell each other to make ourselves feel better about this fucked up shit - "no matter what, they'll be punished eventually!"
But they won't. Once you die, that's it. Finito.
Hahaha there no God you fool
How did this reply section turn from narcos to a religious debate
The killers were the Familia michoacana and they have a 500,000$ bounty. They do killings like this all the time on video. But this is the worst one.
Thanks for the reply, but do you have any sources to back this up? What did the poor guy even do?
As far as I know the guy was a gang member who went into their area when he wasn’t supposed to. And it really pissed them off somehow. Somewhere in the video one of the members says “came to the wrong side.” So I’m guessing he was trespassing or something.
Ok? Sources?
source: trust me, bro
why do you need a source to something that’s practically sourceless? their explanation sounds good enough to accept. just take it. it has no effect on the outcome of the video.
whispers this is a load of barnacles
Ok. I’m thinking if I’m in a cartel, I’m going to 1000% carry around some cyanide capsules. Or find a way to kill my self REAL QUICK before I even see a box cutter
Just wear an explosive vest and take the sick fucks with you.
Bismillah
Good idea
Bro i came here to learn what funkytown is and not to see you guys arguing about fucking god
were getting the full reddit experience in one thread
I found the video here on Reddit just trying to figure out a little on the backstory
Accents sound like that of the Michoacán area, they need sharper knives
that makes sense coz I read an article about a town / city down Michoacan way that is divided in two - one cartel runs one side, another cartel the other.. this would tie in with the 'came to the wrong side comments' in the video...
Comment deleted by user
If you listen to some of the people there they were complaining about how the knife wasn’t cutting...another was saying just kill him already
Jesus at least one of them was like "come on, enough is enough".
He's not saying it in a merciful manner; he sounds bored. Remember that they're doing this while shouting obscenities at him and laughing and sharing drinks (based on their dialogue).
I’ve come to realize that it’s a blessing even for mfs that live in the worst neighborhoods in the US, because no gang can compare to even the smallest weakest cartel in Mexico. Like they’re a whole fucking army it’s insane. Also their videos are just too messed up.
Which is why I always find it laughable that US urbanites think their ghettos are "hard" and "tough" to survive.
American ghettos are nothing compared to Mexican/Russian ghettos or Brazilian favelas. Practically tourist hotels in comparison.
Dont get me wrong, violence is violence, and people in the worst neighborhoods in the US do struggle, but I would 100% live in one of the worst neighborhoods in the US, just because of the fact that i would we born a US Citizen. Now that right there is privilege.
Same with the uk guy, you hear literal kids talking about the ‘ends’ or ‘on the block’ im like you got no idea pal, those guys would cut you and your universal credit tracksuit up with butter knives😂
Perhaps not the city ghettos but maybe the reservations. I deal with inner city gang members all the time & mostly the gang aspect doesn’t scare me, rarely the individual person can be intimidating. But occasionally we’ll get a Native Mob case & that group scares the shit out of me. They are probably on Mexican cartel level.
Imagine being told as a child that in the future you would be the victim of an infamous gore video. Like what
Dude I've had this exact thought before, and it's absolutely terrifying. Like this dude was a human being just like the rest of us, he had friends, families ambitions. And in that moment of primal barbarity, they stripped away every ounce of his identity. To this day, we still don't know who the victim was, his backstory, his entire being was just squashed out of this world.
Prolly just a hand on an avocado farm lured into the life by a few hundred bucks a week to carry a gun and wear a vest
If he was alive for as long as he looked, he has to have had thousands of experiences, good ones, bad ones, maybe he had a partner. So sad
This fucking comment man, that’s what think about that fucks with me stg can’t imagine myself going through that but this was a living breathing person, a baby at one point and he was feeling every single slash and stab, fucking sick
https://seegore.com/rival-gang-member-flayed-tortured-and-beheaded/
this one bothered me all day.
Fuck man, poor bastard.
Idk about a poor bastard. We need context on who he was. Theres a chance he did fucked up shit too. You live by the sword then you die by it too if thats the case
Nah, I don't think anyone deserves to be skinned alive. "live by the gun die by the gun",would be more relevant, but all I see is pain and torture they could've just put a bullet in his head, but instead they did this sick twisted shit.
People who skin others deserve to be skinned
There’s a Plagued Moth Twitter post of revisiting Funkytown Gore the video is censored of course but you can hear a cutting noise so that might be the reason he has no face and just a bloody skull without eyes so maybe after they flayed his face off and cut off his hands to the wrist they’ve might’ve gouged his eyes out by something
Yeah this one got me. That was too brutal. No man deserves that. Just shoot him in the head already. Damn.
Dude I wouldn't wish this on HITLER. because there comes a point, once you're inflicting this level of suffering on ANYONE, you are as bad as them.
I don't agree with this, Wanting someone even near the level of cruelty hitler was at to suffer doesn't make you any worse of a person, it just means you want justice for those that he made suffer. No punishment could ever make up for all that he did, it's estimated that 6 million jews died in the holocaust, there is no reason to sympathize with him. And taking pitty and giving him an easy death doesn't make you any stronger.
