Summer Program: Rice Univ Aerospace Academy - Summer Programs - College Confidential Forums
College Confidential Forums
Hi all - My high school junior got a letter that he got selected to attend Rice University’s Aerospace Academy Fueled by Envision. It is a paid program and is pricy. I usually don’t think there is a lot of value in doing a paid program. But this one looks interesting and also, we didn’t apply for it.
Does anyone know about this? Is there any value in doing this expensive program? I need help making a decision on this. Please share your thoughts.
So if I’m reading right, they use the Rice campus and some faculty, but it’s not a Rice program?
Can you ask the school for a few references from past years?
It sounds like a fine program - if you want your student to learn more. We wanted ours to learn more and sent them to Purdue STEP - which he was turned down to but then accepted when his ACT went up.
It’s a lot of money so if unsure I’d seek references. And I wouldn’t assume it will help for college apps, etc.
But - if you’re doing it for the right reasons - to get exposure, to see if this is an interest - than great. But like any big purchase, I’d want to research its legitimateness.
