      Critics Consensus

The Company You Keep is a (frustratingly) slow-burning thriller about very contemporary issues.

eric h I am talking about the tv Series the company you keep that was a fantastic first series. As usual rotten labels did a terrible job. I can't believe Disney canceled this series. It was one of the best I've seen in a long time.. Please bring it back. Eric Hager Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Georgan G Having lived through the era of the Weathermen, I liked how the audience was being educated as to why the far left became violent. Right on, man. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Daisy A The Company You Keep is a show full of cliches. Everything looks familiar and nothing comes together. For example, Instead of focusing and developing a story that supports the relationship between the leads that they want the viewer to believe is happening, the writers think we are dumb enough to just believe the random one liners like "you see right through me" implying the two leads are falling in love. There's been nothing shown to support that!!! This is a frustrating show! I wish it to be good but it's just not!!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/03/23 Full Review Torin F There are a number of films/books that imagine what might have become of the Weather Underground and other 60's radicals. It's a compelling but usually disappointing story source, and THE COMPANY YOU KEEP is no different. Though grounded in the history, it mostly plods along on the dubious momentum of an aggressive journalist and a geriatric fugitive. Watchable but disappointing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review lou h Very disappointing, especially the ending Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/30/22 Full Review isla s I quite enjoyed this film in terms of seeing things mostly from the criminal/fugitives point of view - him and a junior journalist, rather than purely the authorities point of view. It was relatively gripping during some key scenes and thoughtful in others. I'd say thematically its about morals and principles and also self reflection. It was an interesting watch I enjoyed and so as a subtle , thought provoking thriller, I'd recommend it. Oh and it has a great cast too - some pretty big names. Wesley Morris Grantland This is the most depressing movie ever made about radicalism. Jan 3, 2014 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle This chase film combines elements of the thriller and newspaper procedural to create a contemporary saga about political idealism, stone-cold realities, and the repercussions of past deeds on future innocents. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 26, 2013 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension It ultimately settles, like many of its characters did, for pleasant mediocrity.
