Went to visit the oldest brewery in America for my 6oth Birthday. I know ! i don't drink but it was still enjoyable. The journey through the countryside was as interesting as the destination. I enjoyed the tour and the tasting afterwards. Lots of history about the building, company and area. Las tour is around 3pm so plan accordingly,

Large variety of collections. I could spend hours at this museum. So much to see. So worth the trip. A must see experience if you enjoy items from the past. So much variety and detail.

We visited the farm during its "off-season," when it is not normally open. However, because we had been seeking a few lavender products without success for a while, we REALLY wanted to visit, so we phoned the proprietors. They were kind enough to arrange a time for us to visit and to meet us there. (Bought some lovely products, including culinary lavender, which is REALLY difficult to find for some reason.)

Even though there was still a little bit of snow on the ground, some mounds of lavender could be seen in the field, and it's clear that this place is going to be lovely come Spring and Summer.

The proprietress told us about a "lavender festival" (not the right title) coming up this May, and we'll definitely be there. Our house is clearly going to smell of lavender until then.

    Looking forward to returning.

Do you remember the fun of rummaging through an attic or perhaps an old trunk in your grandmother’s house? What about looking through the drawers in your aunt’s bedroom and coming across wonderful leather gloves and an exquisite alligator purse? Or opening your grand-dads closet and finding boxes of old trains or Lincoln logs. These were mini treasure hunts that brought you delights and wonderful things from days gone by. Walking into MARGUERITE’S ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES in Pottsville, Pa. brings back all of the expectations at what might be inside the closet, bureau or attic. Not knowing what you might find, but being up for the adventure and knowing there would be something wonderful. From the moment you walk into the door, it is one marvelous find after another. Marguerite’s is full of pieces of furniture, ranging from an early 20th century credenza to a 1930s maple dresser, an old gorgeous glass front china cabinet or great old frame portraits. Are you into retro jewelry? Be prepared to be overwhelmed. How about 1940’s & 50’s women’s hats, dresses, handbags or coats? Beautiful doilies of every size and shape are on hand. Darcy, the owner is knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Start off by asking her is she is Marguerite, it is a lovely story. If you just want to wander around the three floors of her lovely shop, she will be more than happy to let you roam and browse to your heart’s content. If you prefer to have her tell you about her amazing treasures, she will accompany you describing and explaining what she has on hand. Chairs, dining tables, mirrors, credenzas, dining leather chairs from Germany, a croquet set, antique bottles, china, knick-knacks, a massive brass cash register, a gorgeous old organ, an exquisite player piano, antique toys and so much more will pique your interest. From floor to ceiling it is one thing after another just waiting to be discovered. If you love antiques, period pieces or just browsing for that special something, do yourself a favor and visit MARGUERITE’S. Just make sure you have plenty of time, this is the kind of shop where you will spend hours poking your head into every little nook and cranny or chatting. Even if you don’t plan on purchasing anything, the sheer adventure of the shop will be well worth the visit. A helpful hint, call to make sure they are opened on the day you plan to visit. But DO visit.

This is a wonderful, gem filled shop in the middle of Pottsville. The space is immense and everywhere you look, there is something wonderful. If you are in the market for a full service dinner set from the early 1900's, vintage 1940s, 50's 60's or 70 apparel, knick knacks, vintage electronics, lamps, vases, chairs, tables, etc., Hidden Treasures is for you. Even if you aren't in search of anything, stop by, poke around and you may just find that one thing that calls out, just to you.
