Italy is an amazing country. Trying to tell you all the amazing facts about one single country can be a pretty difficult task, so I’m going to try and cover some of the more interesting and important Italy facts for kids.  I personally have a strong Italian heritage, but have never had an opportunity to go yet. Where In the World Is Italy?

Italy is part of of Europe all the way to the south. It’s a peninsula that is almost entirely surrounded by water. It’s surrounded by the Adriatic Sea in the east, Tyrrhenian Sea to the southwest, Ionian Sea in the southeast and it’s southern tip extends into the Mediterranean Sea. On land it borders  Austria, Switzerland, France and Slovenia.

How Big Is Italy?

It’s pretty big, I would say somewhere in the middle of all the countries. It’s actually the 72nd largest country. It has 301,340 square miles.

Is Italy And Island?

It’s not an Island, but almost. Most of it’s borders are surrounded by sea, but it is attached to Europe so it can’t be an Island. However, Italy has several Islands that belong to it including Sardinia and Sicily.

How many people live in Italy?

Italy is home to 60,626,442 people. It has around 201 people per square mile which is higher than most counties in Western Europe.

What is Italy’s capital city?

Roma (Rome) is the capital of Italy. It’s often referred to as the “Eternal City”.  It’s Italy’s largest city and houses 2.6 million people.

♦ The Green, White and red in their flag stand for 3 virtues. Hope, Faith and Charity.

♦ A flight to Rome takes about 8 hours from New York City, it takes about 2.5 hours from London/England.

♦ The country is shaped like a high heel boot.

♦ The Alps to the north are what separates Italy from France, Austria, Slovenia and Switzerland.
