|| About the Collection ||
This collection consists chiefly of transcriptions of Coptic chant included by Ernest Newlandsmith and Margit Toth. Ragheb Moftah (1898-2001) was an Egyptian musicologist, scholar, and pioneer in the preservation of the coptic liturgical music heritage. From 1926 until 1936 he worked with Ernest Newlandsmith to record this repertory in musical rotation; it was previously transmitted only through oral tradition and audio tapes as well as paper documents relating to the Coptic chant repertory as well as Moftah's work.
