If Russia wins, we're going to see all this happen again in a few years with another country that borders Russia. The World is not enough for Putin.

As a finnish person this is my worst fear at the moment

Finns are up 1-0, when it comes to Russian aggression.

True tue

Best case scenario, and more realistic, there's a negotiated peace. Terms Ukraine would sign include being barred from joining NATO and become a politically neutral state, think Finland or Austria. Ukraine would also be giving up Donetsk and Luhansk to Russia, and have to give up its claims to Crimea.

Worst case scenario, Ukraine is forced to fully surrender and a pro-Russian administration is placed to take over the entire country. More realistically in the event of a surrender scenario, Russia takes everything east of the Dnieper river and creates a new country, Novorossiya, as a puppet state and buffer against NATO and Ukraine would be left with the Western half of the country.

Nobody can win, war is always the failure of both partys

Russia has already lost. They share a border with Ukraine, have no supply line issues, have superior weapons and way more soldiers.

They should have taken three days to win this war.

They are supposedly a super power.

They have shown how weak they are.

I total agree on that. Lets just hope they arnt bad losers like my lil’ brother when we play monopoly and he loses and takes the whole game board and throws it out the balcony and screams like a maniac

What does all that say about America given it's poor performance in Iraq and Afghanistan in particular?

They won’t.

Once Putin realizes it’s a failed endeavor and the pressure from outside and inside Russia mounts, he’ll double down on tyranny and get himself assassinated by his own people in the process.

Russians fighting for food off shelves, angry parents of Russian soldiers, media people resigning, mass arrests, the sanctions… the list goes on. There’s resentment within Russia for him, and speaking against him is becoming more criminalized by the month it seems.

If Putin goes nuclear, Russian blood is spilled en masse. No way around it. At best, he’s king of a bunker city for a matter of weeks before someone snaps and kills him.

There’s a range of “win”

The most likely will be “win the battles, lose the occupation”. Lots of destruction of Ukraine. Destruction of Russian economy.

No matter what happens, Russia has shown it can’t be trusted in Europe and economies will dissociate.

There’s no good path out. By invading, Putin has showed he has a very distorted view of the world. No matter what happens the dissociation will continue and Putin will get increasingly desperate.

Explain? And also what do you mean by win?

Ukraine will be a hard occupation. They’re trying to seize marioupol to have a solid strip of land from Donetsk to Crimea. There’s also Kaliningrad which is split from Russia proper but Poland and Lithuania. You bet there’s a lot of talk in NATO about that corridor.

If russia “lose” im afraid they’ll do something real fucked up just because blyat it!!

Are you able to get citizenship in Russia and immigrate back?

Pride for your country is an awful reason to support innocent people being murdered and having places like childrens hospitals and random homes being bombed. You are an awful person

He will put Trump in the White House again.

Russia thought Ukraine would fold in days. He’s going to escalate, but hopefully a peaceful resolution will be found. However, I’m not holding my breath tbh.

If Russia walks away with everything they want and Putin still in power, then I would wager China will be emboldened and invade Taiwan.

Is it winning if you destroyed 2 countries at the same time and you're sitting on the ashes?

I posted on this a few days ago. On paper Russia "should" have won by now, and I think overall likely they probably eventually will "technically" win, unfortunately. But by "winning" I mean that legally the military will have surrendered. But the Ukrainian people never will surrender and never will submit to the authority of Russia, so again (and this is history repeating itself) there'll be some type of underground resistance and guerrilla warfare that will last possibly for years to come, so unfortunately that'll mean Russia only cracks down harder, thus increasing resistance, more restrictions on them, more resistance, etc.

It's not going to end pretty unfortunately

What does Russia winning mean?

Taking over Ukraine

That's a tall order. Russia could get to the point where they've taken over and occupy all the key cities, but the Ukrainian people are equipped and committed to waging a long-term insurgency. It will be unending guerilla warfare. I don't see any plausible path for Russia to successfully take over and suppress the Ukrainian population.

Some have speculated that Russia deemed itself safe back when it had its outer shell of soviet republics. Now this shell broke off and the bits are embracing "western values". So much so that they joined nato and now there are american soldiers on soil that used to be soviet.

Well, sucks to be Russia then. Most efforts to "persuade" people to not embrace a value system you don't like backfired. Americans saw that and Russians saw that as well.

Russia might be able to eventually "win" their campaign in the Ukraine. The Ukrainian people won't appreciate that and unless Russia commits most of their standing forces to the occupation of the Ukraine they would swiftly be independent once more.

As soon as the occupation force is weaker then 120000 Soldiers i figure they will not be able to keep the guerilla war that would be starting as soon as the Ukrainian official government is deposed under control.

If Russia does leave a very strong occupation force there that'll leave a lot of other places free to pursue new politics. Georgia has been thinking of joining nato. They, as well as all the other former soviet republics, have seen what went on in the Ukraine as well as Kasachstan and are wary.

If your Government has goals that don't allign with those of Russia, Russia might come by and "free" some Russians who live in your country.

If the people of your country don't appreciate the governments "close relations" with the Kremlin your government will have the backing of Russia and her allies to violently suppress protests.

China is watching. If Russia takes Ukraine and gets away with it, Taiwan will be next.
