What Does Cycle Zeroing Distance Mean And How To Put It Into Practice?

Question

Hi everyone! I have played BF1 for 20 hours as a newbie since the revolution bundle was on sale. In the battle, system tips usually flash at the bottom right of the screen. There is one terminology catching my eyes and making me wonder, which is, Cycle Zeroing Distance. As the system indicates, V is bound with this tricky tuning. Take this M1917 Enfield as example, this rifle can be "V-ed" into 75m, 150m and 300m. Interestingly, when I check the game setting, V in key bindings suggests FIRE MODE. This is bewildering because apparently the mode here as a setting or mechanism has little to do with a specific distance value. In terms of a pistol or a rifle, AR and SAR have been applied to label the fire mode as far as I know. Venture to guess, this CZD means a lot to the sniper, pariticularly when there is a distance between the target and shooter. This topic may be a cliche on Reddit, but whoever hardcore gamers would help to illustrate this term in a more plain and thorough way would be heartfeltly appreciated.

Zeroing refers to calibrating a weapon sight so that the crosshairs meet the expected point of impact of the weapon's projectile at a specific distance. When aiming at a target the same distance away, zero adjustment from the crosshairs is needed

Speaking of the projectile, the further we aim, the slightly higher shall we raise the rifle up right? So when we aim using 300m to score a longrange kill, the height we move the mouse up can be more predictable and manageable. Can I understand in such a way?

If you set the rifle sight on 300 m

and are aiming at an enemy's head directly in your scope at 150 m away from you, your bullet will shoot slightly above the enemy's head and you will miss your shot, despite you aiming directly at him.

If you set the rifle sight to 300 m

and are aiming at an enemy's head directly in your scope at 300 m away from you, you will head shot him with perfect accuracy without needing the compensate for bullet drop.

Got you. Much obliged!

Very well said with out complicating it, makes sense now,

yes. if you are 300 metres away and set to 300m you will not have to aim above the player

it is how far away the gun is programed to shoot in a way. if you are very far use 300 m and you will not have to aim as much above the player as with 75. if you use 300 in cqc it might just pass over their heads

So the zeroing distance is actually pre-programed and the sniper just needs to switch the "gear" in order to have a bullseye right? 75 150 300 respectively stands for the range from near sight to far spot, calibrating through the estimated distance is the function of this V.

Edited

You don't have to switch it you can aim slightly above it to compensate for the bullet drop off. Honestly trying to snipe 300 m away is pretty rare for me in this game and if the enemy is really far I'll just change it to 150 m to be slightly more accurate.

If you can also measure distance with the trench periscope in exact meters in order to gauge how far away you are from your target.

Enlightening. I will try to figure it out in the game.

Just aim a little higher for far away targets

I would recommend that you always play at the default setting (i.e. 150 m). With time you will know how far and high you have to hold out. You will never get used to it by constantly changing the settings.

Besides that, like the others said, its the distance where the bullet is exactly at the point of the crosshairs.

Thanks for advice. Kill from 300m+ seems too hard for me now. I am willing to learn this “simple geometry” later in BF1. With your help it is really a good start.
